I figured your scarcity was because the blower finished off the engine. ...I was kinda right. lol On your crank snout, what you're seeing is VERY common on SBCs with blowers. Even with the press fit, that little key just can't hold the load of the blower. Just to show the importance, you can buy a SBC crank with a larger BBC snout on it for that very reason. Since you don't have one of those snouts, the trick is to get a fixture to put a secondary key What's odd is you have a balancer with two key slots in it. And, if you're running that key that you've sheared, then ''sheared back'', you need to get that out YESTERDAY!!! It's iffy right now with that compromised key, but it's nowhere as strong as it used to be (when it still failed). Basically it's a grenade with the pin pulled right now. That key is going to fail soon. And if the balancer spins on the snout, you might get a away with just ruining your crank/balancer with no catastrophic failure. With the slack in the slots, I'm sure your damper isn't indexed dead nuts, but for what you're doing, putting a second pin in is pretty much close enough. There is a mod you can do to drill and insert a hardened pin to act as a secondary sheer pin. It's a very common mod in the LS world. Kinda pricey for the tool for what it is. But you can always look at how the kits work, get a solid pin and freehand it at the parting line. amzn.to/48DhQAt

I've seen how guys pin their cranks. Especially popular with the CTS -V guys. The balancer hub and crank are pretty well toast anyway, I'm willing to roll the dice for now until I get a new crank in there. The way I see it, shearing the key both ways just means it's "cold forged" now 🤣 I will probably buy a double keyed crank and have the balancer hub replaced. The whole motor will be reworked then. I've beat on it a lot for what it is. That poor stock crank doesn't owe me anything.

@@RightTurnRandy Dude, I wouldn't be worried about ''getting a new crank'' in there. You can't just swap a crank after a crank failure and keep on truckin'. A crank issue basically means you have to start from scratch... and go from there on a full build. I would recommend you Band-Aid what you have so it lasts, and find a new SBC block to build. If your budget allows or things like hi-dollar cranks with BBC snouts and shit, build you a beast on the the stand while you have a reliable mule motor held back to keep you mobile.

Why don't you make a wider key.

I thought about that, it wouldn't fit right since the sides of the crank and balancer are smooshed and angled now. I haven't been driving it a lot, and it's not making a ton of power, So I may just order a new crank in a few months and rebuild the bottom end. At least cam it too while I'm in there.

Look into a crank pinning kit. It bolts on and gives you a jig to put two round pins in the crank and balancer. You can do two pins and keep the keyway or ditch the keyway all together. I did it on my LS because they don’t use a keyway at all.
