@@KrowleyPineapples777 Pardon the prose, I'm in a strong writer's mood today. I'm no expert but, here's what I do know: It's an environment entirely hostile to our biologies; where light either doesn't reach or barely hobbles through in luminosity so dim that it might as well not have reached there at all as far as our eyes are concerned, where the pressure could reduce a man to a condensed clump of pulp, and where so much as taking a breath can kill. So radically distinct is it from the one we've evolved for that even its study proves a task greater than that of space, since at least with the latter, you can observe without directly plunging into it. It's only fitting such an environment begets equally strange and disturbing life, really. "As above, so below", or so they say. Many of its inhabitants are among the most uncanny in the animal kingdom; every facet of their bodies almost seeming to have been made with the active intention of setting off a muddled, confused fight or flight response. Wide maws lined with villiform teeth; huge eyes, or no eyes at all; slippery skin colored pale, black, or pinkish for lack of need of any color when the light required to see it simply does not exist; appendages that glow faintly amid the eigengrau of the deep sea like stars against the backdrop of a night sky; and bodies enlarged by the depths for reasons we're still not quite sure of. One could suppose that ancient maps weren't wrong when they said monsters dwell in the sea; only that they were wrong in placing them to the four corners of the world, rather than in its deepest depths.

An animal doesn't have to be particularly intelligent to be a major threat to anyone on and/or in the sea. It's not our environment. It may as well be the vacuum of space considering just being completely in its environment without adequate technology and equipment will body you in minutes.

@@Amy_the_LizardOr maybe they're not that far apart, deep sea mermaid are simply less responsive towards traditional methods of testing intelligence. For example apes can pass the mirror test, but parrots and corvids, though as intelligent as great apes, cannot. Very intelligent there planet got sucked into Nibru atmosphere making it a 4th moon I can’t think of the name of their home world starts with a M. It will come back to me I will the comment but apparently they are supposed to be very mad us and don’t like us. After ww2 the mermaids along with other inner earth beings would finest military bases and even deactivate nukes. Some of the siren/mermaid race are the cursed daughters of Adam who had the nephlim kids and were taught dark magic by the dark lords. Or the fallen angels the dark lords of Atlantis who are the fallen angels same people and then even some of us on the surface of not people in general. We’re once able to breath underwater this is why we have web fingers when we are in water so really we are the mermaids/mermen we’re looking for. Underwater your damn near immortal so it’s really not a curse and I’ve even heard some of the navy had a skirmish. With sirens/mermaids who’s voices were too enchanting the soldiers couldn’t fight back at first but they came to an agreement. After many skirmishes the queen of the sirens or mermaids in the region I guess seen navy ships entering there territory. And swam right beside the ship but the fact the navy were told to leave and come back around that area I think perhaps were dealing with a civilization. In the mermaid mythology they called the proctors of the ocean secrets no man shall know all.

Hi Thought Potato! Just as one could think that you explore pretty much everything about mermaids you highlight a new subject. My compliments! Due to its chilling appearance this species could be related to myths of demonic mermaids in Indian Ocean (just as Suvannamacha in Ramayana)? May I ask you which kind of sightings or legends inspired this last your creation? Since I first read 20.000 leagues under the sea and Moby Dick, as a child I had a deep curiosity for some of the most famous giants of the depths. Just as I did for the Qalupalik, I'd like to pose a question about the habits and diet of these creatures. Could the scars on the body that you described, be a record of an encounter with a certain infamous invertebrate predator (like on spermwhales)? Parting from ancient and modern folklore, recent researches depicts a behaviour more slow and a size more contained for the Architeuthis Dux. So my question is: could the Aquasapien Profundus of 4 meters long (alone or in group) be a fair match for a Giant Squid (or other large cephalopods)? Are they endemic of the Atlantic Ocean or more evenly spread, like other creatures of the mesopelagic zone? Due to their cold-resistence and habit to dive in deep waters could they get into Qalupalik? In that case what could be the outcome? My best regards to You!

I always loved books like Dragonology and dracopedia as a kid, and appreciate books like the Resurrectionist now. add in the subtle hints at the story unfolding in the background across episodes with a bit of a Magnus Archives spooky vibe, throw some nice artwork in there and i'm hooked. As someone who grew up consuming vast amounts of nature documentaries and weird animal facts, it always makes me so happy to see how much effort you put into making these creatures. Things like Mermaids essentially evolving like dolphins did and thus not re-evolving gills because lungs are more efficient, or horned creatures gaining their traits from cancer mutations like deer did, makes me so giddy and happy to see baked into mythical creatures!

The sponsored segment starting the instant the story ends makes it harder to keep that feeling. Maybe it would work better if there were at least a few seconds between the end of the recording and the start of the sponsor. Apart from that, really great work as always. Mermaids are always fun and interesting to consider existing. Would be so awesome if truly real. I enjoy these videos, thank you.

😂 I always get hype when seeing his video uploads but it’s too many unique creatures and entities to go unnoticed than to keep going back on mermaids/sirens and horror movie trope monsters 😂.
