I would have liked this book better if Thomas' roll was clarified either at during his altercation with Eve or at the end of the book. The unanswered question of whether he bends relatiy or changes peoples timeliness via Mandela effect to change people's memory left me a little unsatisfied. I really wish the would have went more into the man in the cabin in the woods that seemed to work out some map of the labyrinth Thomas can create. All that said, I loved everything else about the story.

I can understand that perspective. I, too, wish we could have learned more about the man in the cabin in the woods.

Such a good review! I was a bit afraid to watch it and get spoilers since I just started the book, but it was great! Got me very interested in continuing reading and excited for what comes next!

Hi Leila, I agree with you, this book was more fun than scary. I absolutely did not understand this book, and I thought the ending was so confusing. Does Charlotte believe her at the end? Was Eve just doing all the research once she was in the hospital. I did not like that the world was not explained, that the Old House man was not identified. I wish you can do a video on what the ending meant. Thank you for sharing. Elizabeth (I also kept tract of the Morse Code and the capital letter reveal.)

I can see why the book and ending could seem confusing. I'll work on a video this weekend to talk about my thoughts on the ending and try to get it up next week sometime. I too would have liked more of an explanation of the world and the Old House man!

warning spoilers in this comment!! (i just finished this book 20 minutes ago and need to talk about it with someone lol) i think the found footage pieces throughout the book (the transcripts, advertisements, weird mandela forums, etc) are the bread crumbs of research eve was doing during her 10 minutes of computer time in the ward. she explained to charlie on the phone how she was finding everything she could to prove her existence. we learn that charlie and eve met at a showing of spirited away, so maybe she found that ad online to prove her side of the story. she could’ve also found the interview with the boy who broke into the house to show how she isn’t alone in what she’s experiencing. also, after the phone call with “charlotte,” she says something like “after coming across a forum about the mandela effect i fell into a state of terror” which could be the same forum brought up earlier in the book. i could be speculating but that’s where my thoughts went.

Wow! I love all your theories. I never thought of it like that. It was such a good book - I love a book that makes you wonder.

The more I think about the book (finished it last night) the more confused I get! 😵💫 Loved it, of course. Appreciate the spoilers. I’m looking for spoilers! I can’t figure out what’s real and what’s imagined. But the item in the envelope Thomas handed her… that certainly points one direction.

How do books become popular on reddit? Does the author post it for readers?
@leilawanders4 ай бұрын
Good question. In this case, it was first posted as a short story that he later adapted into a novel. I didn't read the short story version.

Spoiler in this comment: I just finished this, but I did the audio so I didn’t see the messages till after. I’m so glad you liked it. I don’t agree with the movie comparisons on the book, but the actual movie comparisons I can think of would be major spoilers. I was curious of the website you used to translate the codes? SPOILER BELOW: The movies I’d say are Us, Incidents in a Ghostland and Blair Witch 2. There’s an adaptation coming, which I’m definitely looking forward to, but I do think those that haven’t read the book will see it as possibly a knock off of Ghostland. I don’t think the author was doing that, but that movie is so haunting and well known in horror circles as a gem, it’s impossible not to make comparisons. Books don’t scare me either, this got me at some points though, but in the same way that Blair Witch 2 and Ghostland got me, similar to how you talked about that dream in the beginning.

I haven't seen Ghostland or BW2 or Parasite so the movie comparisons weren't make/break for me. I can't remember what website I used to translate the codes...I may have just done google searches for the messages. Curious to know if the audio had the messages incorporated in some way.
