It kinda sucks Chuck never became as Popular as Frank. I love Chuck because most other dads in videos game are just out for Revenge after the Family is already dead, being as self destructive as possible in the process, but Chuck's daughter is still around, and his motivation in the story is to just Clear his name because he knew no one else would care about his Daughter like he does. in a world of madness and greed, he's just trying to protect what he loves most, and Part of that is living to fight another day for the sake of his Daughter.

wholeheartedly agree, i adore chuck. i’m annoyed here that TJ isn’t returning for frank but i’d genuinely be hesitant to ever play a remaster of the 2nd game if they replaced his voice. i dunno why, i also just think Peter Flemming as chuck is irreplaceable even more so than frank.

It's not hard to see why Chuck isn't as popular as Frank. As cool as Chuck is, he's a cliche protagonist-A father trying to protect his child. That trope has been done to death. Frank is a wartime freelance reporter/photojournalist who will fearlessly risk his own life just to get the scoop of a lifetime. He's unique in that sense, because there aren't a lot of protagonists like that.

I honestly agree. My first dead rising was 2 and even after years of playing and finishing it I honestly thought chuck was the more popular character among the community. Just figured capcom was like every other dev team and refused to do anything with a good character. Iv tried multiple times to play dr1 through the years and I just can’t do it,something about the game just always turns me away. I think Iv tried it over a span of 7ish times over the years thinking maybe when I’m older I’ll like it. Don’t get me wrong I love frank I watched cutscenes ect but i just can’t get into the first game

There shouldn't be any reason to suspect that Frank will quip or act anything like the way he did in DR4. Capcom Japan typically knows what fans hate/love. Hell, the director of RE7 (who is thankfully directing RE9) even acknowledged how off track the RE series was by the time they started development on 7 and how fans responded very negatively to the action direction that nearly killed the series.

​@@alexandermckay9521honestly, I think Resident Evil NEEDS stuff like Code Veronica, RE6 or Revelations, just for things to be shaken up in next installments. CV helped us pad things out begore REmake, Zero and RE4, RE6 and Rev1 caused devs to think about doing something good in Rev2 and something quite fresh in RE7. Also, these projects help to burst the bubble of tension the previous installments caused, because almost every subsequent RE title ups the action. RE1 to RE3 ended with a literal nuke, CV to RE6-Rev1 ended with a psychic teleporting Tyrant and a war in a small eastern european country with BOWs. You either make a bang to set up something new or wait untill that bubble bursts in your face.

All though Resident Evil has always had action elements, its genre in the beginning was survival horror. The switch to the action genre, beginning with RE4, marked the beginning of the series downfall because they began omitting several core survival horror elements that defined the series from 1-CV, such as: - Small inventory - Item management (RE4 was the last game to have this until it returned in RE7) - Item box - Save rooms (RE4 was the last game to have this until it returned in RE7) - Backtracking - Limited resources - Ammo conservation - Puzzles - Claustrophobic setting The result? Millions of fans responded very negatively to it, and the series had lost a TON of appeal. The very fact that Koshi Nakanishi (director of RE7 and RE9) acknowledged it during the Capcom Next showcase further solidifies my point. Don't try to lecture me on something you clearly know nothing about, junior.

Personally, I feel that deluxe remaster is capcom's way of not only rebooting the franchise, but doing their own sequels to DR. Like not a full-on Dead Rising 2 remake, but their own Chuck Green game or something.

Now here's a couple of theories I have on the re casting 1.) They might record dialog for Survival missions so it isn't just reading 2.) Some of the actors might not be available to get anymore either do to them being busy, them being gone from the face of the earth, or too old to do the voice given this is like almost 20 years 3.) Others have said union reasons

Capcom’s in the habit of not hiring unionised voice actors/actresses. They’ve done the same with Claire Redfield’s voice actress as well as Ada’s. They might splurge for special projects, like they did with TJ Rotolo to reprise his role as William Birkin (he played the role in the Wii game, Umbrella Chronicles) for the RE2 Remake.

Just gonna say, I really like Chuck. Nick is... inoffensive. But Chuck is cool. I'll cop to the fact that I was confused when DR2 originally came along. Why not follow Frank? But I came to love that Capcom was not leaning into the fan favorite character and instead fleshing out the world of Dead Rising with each new game having its own voice and its own character to lead you through its adventure. Good stuff, up until 4 obviously.

@@Luomo_Dimenticato That just isn't true. Xbox 360 DR1 definitely had hitstop, it's most obvious if you use a soccer ball or the heavy attack for the sledge hammer against a group of zombies. The 2016 ports just made it more obvious because the game is running at 60+ fps now instead of sub 30. Some trainers also have the option to disable hitstop, so it is definitely a feature.

It definitely doesn't look good. It feels like the game is freezing. Especially when multihitting like a crowd of zombies with something like a soccer ball. It removed a great deal of the satisfaction of watching the undead bowl over, cuz I was too distracted by the rapid fire freezing.

I can forgive the voice changes as long as frank isn’t a one liner spewing quip machine and I heard that they’re bringing back the games original licensed soundtrack. 9:57 The zombie variety is increased partially because they are actually adding zombie models cut from the beta and early builds of Dead Rising. That's a great sign honestly, means people on the dev team are combing over alot of the resources avaiable to them. Hopefully this game is great and well received despite the changes because Dead Rising is truly special and it deserves to come back strong.

Yes, Nick Ramos is probably the only protagonist that nobody from the OG fans since Dead Rising 1 care about, along with "Hank East" from Dead Rising 4. But Chuck Greene despite that he doesn't have the same level of love from the fans as Frank West, he is still a very well-known protagonist and with a good amount of love by the Dead Rising community. For instance, in the actual last game made by Capcom Vancouver, Puzzle Fighter (NOT Dead Rising 4), a part of adding the DR1 Frank West between many classic Capcom characters, they also added Chuck Greene, but not Nick Ramos. So even Capcom Vancouver on its last days, they knew that people still like also the character of Chuck Greene, but not Nick Ramos. Capcom Japan also knows about it; they even added Chuck Greene's outfit for Frank West in the Deluxe Remastered if you pre-order the game. And if it wasn't enough, Peter Flemming (Chuck's voice actor) even made some recent appearances and cameos in some KZbin channels like Kyle Evan and even on STiP0's channel once, being the voice actor pretty active to the Dead Rising community, even after all years since he finished his role of Chuck Greene.

A thing that's been staying in my mind is that youtuber STIP0 pointed out how some of the zombie models in the footage so far are actually calling upon unused designs that were last seen in previews & old builds of the game. Him saying that struck me because it made me realise that Frank's face actually resembles the cartoony approach his model had in the first ever trailer they showed for the original game combined with his appearance in DR2. Stuff like this makes me believe that the "Deluxe Remaster" title might refer to them bringing back cut content from the game maybe? idk. I do definitely agree the original's style was perfect. While I'm glad they'll at least let you use the original model of Frank NO DLC recuired (the quality of which we need to see fully but still) there's something about the played up voice acting and the swinging music that's just not doing it for me. The thing that makes me think about DR1 after so long is the shlubiness as you called it, like Frank was kinda boring in a good way, he was more likely to come off as rude than witty, like he actually took his job and the situation seriously! It made encountering the insane shit happening more striking because you're always in the shoes of a normal person who found themselves in something much more crazy than they thought was happening. Obviously, that could just be marketing going in a completely direction than what the actual game is like, it's happened before! I'm still hopeful for this, especially with the quality of life stuff. Capcom's been doing pretty formidably recently, especially with their remakes. I'll definitely be picking this up if reviews are good.

As much as I love Dead Rising 1, I also wished that Capcom make a Remake of Dead Rising 2, but not just the main game itself, but also combining it with its DLC's (Case Zero & Case West) and even with Off The Record, so we can finally play officially those DLC's on PC and other consoles, because those DLC's were awesome (specially Case West, having Frank West back as Chuck's companion and then as his best friend) and they also helped to understand better Chuck's backstory and motivations and making Dead Rising 2 story more interesting (reflecting again the American consumerism showed it in Dead Rising 1, but with the Zombrex medicine, instead of meat). It would be awesome if we can also use the exclusive weapons, items and outfits from Case West in both Original Dead Rising 2 and Off The Record. Also because DR2, CZ, CW and OTR graphics aged horribly compared to DR1, but at least not so bad compared to DR4. So it would be nice also to see a Fortune City remake, with much better high quality DR2 zombies too, and much better sounds and special effects.

This to me is Capcom preparing to continue the series. They need to reinvigorate interest in it first, likely to gauge whether it will be a profitable venture. On top of that, the fact that they’re keeping the core mechanics with quality of life improvements rather than keeping mechanics from the newer entries gives me hope that any future games will play similarly. Truth be told, giving all games the Deluxe Remaster treatment would do wonders. Except for 4. That just needs to be completely and utterly remade. Keep the story, bring back psychopaths and make the environment more interactive. I can understand Frank being jaded, so keep that, but drop the callousness and the need to drop a quip every 5 seconds. Also, they needed to get shot of the ‘Willamette was an inside job’ thing, because it wasn’t. It was a terrorist attack. Santa Cabeza was the inside job.

Man, I really want this game to sell well. The Dead Rising franchise deserves a revival, especially for people who haven't played the original games until recently like me. I can't play the Dead Rising 2 games because their PC ports suck and I've never owned any Xbox or PSX. Also, I believe Larry is still Chinese (or Taiwanese), he's just meant to be less of a stereotype.

Frank's face changing feels like some sort of in joke. From 1 to 2 it's a little believable since he got older, and probably more stressed and/or depressed. But then they kept changing it as you said until 4 where he is nothing like anything else.

He wasn't saying they weren't high quality models he was talking about how dead rising had technical limitations based on the scale of what they wanted to achieve because of how different dead rising handle zombies compared to resident evil quantity over individual quality. what does it mean? it means the models weren't as high quality as they could have been or had a ton of variety between models, Falls under the umbrella of challenges they faced during development like how much dialogue in the original game couldn't be voiced, the framerate not being the best at times the compromises they had to take to get it working on launch 360. The Majini in resident evil 5 are higher quality models when it comes down to it if you look at the polygon count I guarantee it they're not better zombie models they're better models and with a better understanding of the engine they did amazing things look at monster hunter world probably the last big notable MT Framework release It's stunning even today.

I replayed the original recently, and some things are questionable: such as the level up, which makes the very punishing in lower levels, becoming only enjoyable later; The obvious bad survivor AI can also make the game very frustrating; saving system; unmarked quests;

I mean, he can be a memorable boss while also being a racist stereotype, and I don't think tweaking that to avoid offense is a bad thing. People like to think doing so is an inherently bad thing, and it always precipitates more sweeping changes in the name of political correctness, but I'm honestly not too worried about that; considering the weird look of Brad's face I'd be willing to chalk it more up to just some of those weird adaptations that happen when you're remaking an older game. Personally, I'm only /really/ concerned about Frank's new VA, just because his voice is such an iconic part of his character, but I'm also 100% confident we'll get mods to replace his dialogue if its not up to snuff, the RE engine plays pretty nice with swapping assets like that.

Been a fan for 18 years. Love everything here and it is Day 1 buy. My favorite game of all time, have a Japanese copy, and 100% on all console platforms. Hope to see all Dead Rising 2 content get the same treatment. I hated Dead Rising 3 and 4 for different reasons as they were a shell of what the earlier games were. Would be great to see an eventual reboot of the franchise in a new universe with new characters and a new story

I was hoping to get DR on Switch, but there was no way this one could've made it on that console. If we're lucky maybe on the 2nd version? I also hope that they have a Sandbox Mode like in DR2 OTR. That's what made that game so great.

Apart of Frank's new appearance, I also don't like the complete redesign of Larry the butcher psychopath. Looking more like a big and fat version of Carl the mailman psychopath from Dead Rising 2. I have a feeling that Capcom did this as a way of "censorship", because of a suppose racial stereotypes about Asia on the original design of Larry, but that is just my guess.

The Deluxe Remaster looks so good that if CAPCOM were smart, they'd treat it as a reboot of the series and make future entries a Dead Rising 2, 3, 4, etc. starring Frank West. No hate to Chuck, but it's not quite the same without Frank.

PSA for anyone wanting to play the original version of Dead Rising for the first time (like me): DR1, DR2 and DR2: Off the Record are all $2 bucks each on the Xbox 360 store (cheaper than the Steam Summer Sale, surprisingly). These games, among many others, are deeply discounted because the 360 store shuts down at the end of July. I grabbed 'em recently and I'm excited to finally dip my toes into these games.

Hiya mate, I'm Matt Durham about a year to two years ago I took part in a confidential survey by Capcom, it was to see what game should be remastered should be and what game Capcom should make next? My vote was Dead Rising remake and a new DR game but much more based either around the original DR1timeline; in my opinion DR1 was the best DR game in the series. When the results came in I was shocked to see out of all the potential games Capcom had listed for a possible remake DR1 was the top result, Capcom listed some very well known titles which sold more than DR1. I'm so so glad a remaster is on the way, the only gripe I have with DR1 is the side quests and main story didn't feel very gelled together, an example would be a cross over like raid the gun store could be a side quest but would impact the main story as it would better arm people around you and help you and your group fight better. If that makes sense? Other than XP dealing with psychos has no bearing and can be completely avoided as it doesn't impact the main story.

Actually, if you look close at him swinging a bench around, it seems the hit stop is applied to frank and the zombies he's hitting, but not the game speed itself. It looks like how hitstop works in Monster Hunter and I wouldn't be surprised if it's based on the strength of the hit now.

Personally, I feel this is how they should have handled the RE4 Remake. The original game holds up extremely well in terms of gameplay and all it really needed was some QOL stuff. The Remake they did produce felt like a completely different game with a different focus. Not a fan of it.

13:14 In fighting games we have a term called "hit stop", allows player to hit confirm better with combos as well as the "omph" feeling. That could be the term you were looking for. Impact stop works though!

Judging by bits like hitting the zombies with the bench at the fountain, it looks like they took a different solution to hitstop: making Frank briefly pause on hits instead of pausing the entire game. I may be wrong though.

I agree with you fully with the old voice cast not being reprised. It may be due to them wanting higher quality sound for the voice lines, or maybe they are trying to add voice lines to tie it better with a Dead Rising 2 Remaster. I hope it's because they're adding more voice lines for other modes. While I don't mind survival mode in the original, I also would greatly appreciate optional modes or features from the sequels. Bluecastle/Capcom Vancouver has taken the series into some weird and unnecessary directions either due to lack of direction from the original team or due to too much direction from the original team (*cough *cough Dead Rising 4 being scrapped and remade in a hurry due to disapproval from Capcom Japan). However Sandbox mode from Off the Records, Coop mode from DR2 and DR3 or a difficulty mode from DR3 or DR4 would be greatly appreciated additions that doesn't subtract from the original game if the main story mode is as close to the original as possible. I'm happy to get a remaster without these additions regardless. Perhaps it can bring in new fans and help Capcom gauge the popularity of their IP that might lead to a revival. The franchise could have remained DEAD, but the note it went out on makes me happy to see it given another chance to RISE. hehe get it hehe

i'm not entirely sure if it's what they're going for, but my take on the new Frank design is to bring it closer to the original 2005 beta/TGS design where he had a mode blockish face. With them bringing back Zombie designs also seen from that version and reimplementing cop zombies shooting at Frank i wouldn't be shocked if they tried to go as far back as they could and mesh all the versions of Frank from DR1's development history into a single design with the new one.

Even though I don't think this game needs a remake, I certainly understand why they're doing it: They get to gain some experience making a Dead Rising game work in RE Engine and gauge modern interest in the series without having to worry about conceiving, writing, and planning an entirely new entry. I'm sure doing a remake took a lot of weight off of their shoulders compared to making a DR5, and they know they have a great game on their hands already (as long as they dont mess anything up.) If this game sells well, they will definitely consider making a new Dead Rising game and leaving the hell of DR4 behind.

I think what they mean with re being "quality over quantity" is in gameplay. Dead rising using a large quantity of zombies to hoard you. Where re uses small numbers of intricately placed zombies to make each zombie a huge threat

Oh, you mentioned the new model on Frank looking odd, specifically his eyes. Yeah, that squint he normally has it gone. And I think it was a characteristic of his. So, he's an independent journalist, not tied to any news outlet or organization, so I always interpreted it as Frank being a bit suspicious of people, not quite trusting anyone around him, always thinking "Ok, what's their story and how do they fit into this?"
