Hey guys! In today's video I speak about my experiences with LiquiMoly TopTech 4100 which I've been using on multiple Volkswagen, Skoda Diesel and Petrol Engines.
Spec For My Cars :-
1. 1.9 TDI PD Engine (BXE) :- VW 505.01
2. 2.0 TDI (CRFD) :- VW 505.01
Disclaimer :
This LiquiMoly TopTec 4100 may perform differently on your car and engine in terms of smoothness, temperatures, fuel efficiency depending on the existing conditions and wear and tear of your engine. Do check your recommended Owner's Manual to see if this product is applicable to you.
Within my circle and contact base of about 500 VW Users, only about 5-10% of my test users are dissatisfied with the LiquiMoly TopTech 4100, which the rest are very happy and have seen dramatic improvements and refinement with this Engine Oil. This video is based on my personal vehicle experience and overall, I do find using LiquiMoly TopTech 4100, a positive experience. This video is NOT sponsored by Wurth, LiquiMoly, Castrol or Meguin.

Amazing oil. Real mother of all PD TDI oils. It is also suitable for LPG/CNG (it is ACEA C3 ,VW 505.01). We can say that is half-specialized for Lpg. We use it in Europe. ACEA C3=it is OK for DPF. Fix oil interval for max 15.000km.

For any VAG/Skoda TDI engine requiring a 505.01 spec oil, I would use a 507.00 spec oil which is superior to 505.01. 507.00 is available in 5w30 and 0w30 grades although an SAE30 may be that bit too thin in a hot climate, hence the video suggests a 5w40 oil. I am curious however about the use of 505.01 oils in Common Rail engines. As far as I'm aware CR engines require a 507.00 oil. Please comment as I am intrigued.
@SujoyShivde
@SujoyShivde 3 жыл бұрын
The video suggests and mentions the oil approval Volkswagen has mentioned in the service manual. For the 1.9 TDI PD, 505.01 is the oil spec. The Common Rail diesels sold in India on our Passat, Jetta, Tiguans do not come with a DPF and specifically came with a 505.01 Sticker from the factory. I believe this could all be down to a few factors combined. A) We don't have Extended Service Intervals for Oil Change. We have a fixed 1 Year or 15000km Interval. B) The hot climate, hence suggesting 5W-40 is more suited. C) No DPF hence no 507.00 recommended. Even today, after multiple revisions, when VW changed their vendor from Castrol to Shell, the dealer bulletin from VW still says "VW 505.01 only." 😀
@SujoyShivde
@SujoyShivde 3 жыл бұрын
In fact, our manual specifies 507.00 only for Extended Service Intervals, but our cars come with a Fixed Service Interval PR number on the buildsheet.
@spannerssockets6308
@spannerssockets6308 3 жыл бұрын
In view of what you say, I'm curious why VW did not include a 5w40 grade in its 507.00 specification for CR engines and perhaps even a 10w40. If VW has quoted 5w40 505.01 for use in CR engines run in the Indian climate, then they have to honour engine warranties. Thanks for the feedback.
@piotrp9325
@piotrp9325 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Try in your PD engine Shell 0w30 AV-L 507.00 - in my opinion the best oil for PD engine. I used Castrol and Liqui Moly but Shell beat them all. 5w40 505.01 is hydrocracking oil, 507.00 is hydrocracking + 30% PAO/Ester oil and its better. High viscosity does not always mean high quality protection. In oil construction the base and the add-on package are important.

Couldn’t get hold of this oil due to non availability in India, hence tried Castrol ones, After 500kms you can find the engine noise and vibration a bit higher than when it was using liqui moly. Highly recommend Liqui Moly engine oil. Will change to Liqui Moly after some 4000kms.

Definitely. Engine on Castrol feels no doubt noticeably rougher Vs LiquiMoly, but the Edge can hold on for longer without much consumption. So I'm sure you can even drive 10000kms on it. Which Castrol engine oil did you try? I only recommend Castrol Edge 5W-40 specifically meeting VW 505.01

Hi, I'm sorry but I don't have any experience with the brand you ask about. But if they meet the common approvals and are fairly reputed abroad, then I feel they should be just fine for the car. I switched to meguin low emission 5w-40 from liqui moly toptec 5w40 this time. There's no difference as these oils are exactly identical and are just rebranded. But they're far better than OEM castrol in terms of refinement and smoothness. There's a confusion among many that they doubt if liqui moly toptec 5w40 is fully synthetic or not while the cheaper castrol edge is clearly labeled as fully synthetic. Liqui moly Toptec and castrol edge, both are formulated from group III base oil. In Germany, they are very specific about oil composition. Only group IV oil based products (PAO) can be labeled as fully synthetic. Group III based products are made by severely hyrdrocracking mineral oil. So, they have the properties of synthetic oil and are labeled as HC Synthese oil. But in America, both group III and IV oil based products can be marketed as fully synthetic. So, to conclude, Castrol edge fully synthetic is not fully synthetic by German standards. Group IV based fully synthetic PAOs(100% fully synthetic) are much more expensive. Check out the prices of liqui moly leichtlauf high tech 5w-40 and Castrol Advanced Fully Synthetic (in black container) which are the 'actual' fully synthetic for the Germans. It doesn't matter if you go for HC synthetic/fully synthetic. Just make sure it meets VW505 01 standards and the right viscosity. Downsides of liqui moly AFAIK are high oil consumption and higher price compared to castrol

Where do you use this vehicle? VW recommends 5W-40. 10W-40 will have adverse effect in cold start conditions, plus it's slightly heavier for your car's engine. Red engine sign could be a sign of coolant needing replacement or your car cooling system not being right. Not necessary your engine oil is incorrect. If it's an oil pressure light, then check your car for leaks. I'd not change the oil standard, since 5W-40 has worked great for most. Would suggest a good diagnosis for the warning lights.

TopTec is expensive, but a nice and smooth oil. Castrol Edge 5W-40 is also a good choice.

Hey sujoy any update?
@SujoyShivde
@SujoyShivde 4 жыл бұрын
I feel it is an unfair comparison. The first thing is to not compare two oils of different base viscosities. So say you wish to compare two 5W-40 oils, then Mobil1 makes a couple of different oils in 5W-40. One of them is FS X2 and other is Super 3000. FS X2 is a more premium and better offering compared to Super 3000. I personally haven't tried Mobil1 in my TDI Engines because none of them are VW 505.01 approved. As for LiquiMoly, you should try it and see if you appreciate the difference. It's a really good oil with lot of happy VW Skoda Owners. You maybe right that Mobil1 is a good oil, and in fact it is a good company, but 20000kms is a very small interval to assess if the oil is working well with the engine and not causing any long term reliability damage.

@SujoyShivde
@SujoyShivde 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, I've made a video where I service the Polo 1.2 MPI. For petrol engines, 5W-40 VW 502, 505 is the sufficient approval. So there are plenty of good oils out there depending on how much you wish to spend. Motul X-cess 5W-40, Mobil 1 FS-X2 5W-40, Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40, Castrol Edge 5W-40 are a few oils which meet the VW Approval. A special variant of Castrol Edge has been used by service centres, so you may try Motul, Shell or Mobil1 this time. If you wish to look at more options, then LiquiMoly makes some really good engine oils. You may also look at new oils like ROWE German Oils which have newly been announced. Their pricing is good. Make sure you stick to whatever viscosity your owner manual recommends and try and meet the approval as ROWE oils meet VW 502, 505 with various viscosities

Top Tech 4100 is low ash content oil. It is to be used with turbo diesel with Blue tec (DEF) emission, mostly needed for newer diesels. Since your car does not have DEF, you are wasting money on Liqui Molly 4100. Make sure you change your oil every 5K miles, and If you do that than Castrol will be just as good. Unless you drive very high performance motor (like Mercedes twin turbo hot v8) fully synthetic (made from synthetic stock) will not make much diff. Blended will work just fine.
@SujoyShivde
@SujoyShivde 2 жыл бұрын
It's about following the engine specification. VW Diesels sold in India specify VW 505.01 which was met by only a handful of oils. Your comment is based on supposition that TopTec doesn't make any difference, but the fact is, TopTec does make the TDI quite a lot smoother to drive. Indian cars follow a Fixed Service interval of 1 Year or 15000 Kms. Castrol Edge (newest variant) does meet 505.01, and is definitely more value for money for TDI, but I'm sure some customers surely pay more for the extra refinement.
@SujoyShivde
@SujoyShivde 2 жыл бұрын
For cars with DPF, VW recommends 5W-30 VW 507, but only a handful of Audi and VW Diesel engines like the Passat had this engine. There's a different 5W-30 TopTec for that spec as well.

In fact, Castrol Magnatec etc which are Full Synthetic claimed, have very low quality synthetic components which is why even though the base might be Fully Synthetic, the oil itself is not that good, and that is why those costs are also low.
