A couple months of daily use with the PM2 s45vn and how it held up. I blow the edge up with a digital microscope so we can see what it looks like.

That edge is beautiful. I managed to get a mirror edge on a knife with N690, not quite as nice as yours. I really like it. I just put a deposit on a S45V PM2. I have a Manix XL and YoJumbo, I love them. Spyderco make great knives.

For many, the PM2 is their favourite knife... For some, it's the only knife
@Apex_grind5622 жыл бұрын
As a collector there is no way a PM2 could be the only 1. As a first responder, no way it could be that 1. Slices with a great geometry. But ergos and thin tip make it extremely weak. Love all knives . But all have their downside.

Gunny’s Sharp talk That I can’t really speak to as I only have one knife in Elmax (an Ultratech I don’t often carry) but I can say I don’t find it much more difficult to maintain than something like LC200N. So far my only complaint about the knife is it’s pretty rough on the pockets so I’m thinking about swapping the scales out for some micarta.
@GunnysSharptalk4 жыл бұрын
John Montgomery I wear 5.11 pants to work a lot. The scales haven’t been an issue with my pockets. And I have wet hands a lot so I kinda like the scales for me.

Why did you swap the S45VN for the 20CV? Isn’t the 20CV still the superior steel?
@GunnysSharptalk2 жыл бұрын
S45vn is a little tougher. The 20cv has a little better edge retention. I didn’t swap permanently. I rotate knives.
@jesusofamerica Жыл бұрын
I have come to understand the s30v and the s45vn are the blades to have all the way around. I was gonna get s90v and s110v though I've heard too much about chiping.. what's the point of a knife especially at for 200plus and American if I can't wedge a can.. a can. Saying you spent more money and knowing you got the best are 2 different people.
@patrickbledsoe21763 ай бұрын
I've only recently started to learn about different steels and spend more than $70 on a knife still limited in experience, s35 and s30 but my s30 Learherman charge holds better edge than my s30 Bugout, and my s35 civivi does better than both granted the blade shapes of the s35 is different than both my s30 which are kinda similar.

@johnkeitcgau45113 жыл бұрын
By better if you mean edge retention you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference probably if you had two unmarked blades, this steel has a finer grained structure than Elmax so it should be a tad tougher in day-to-day applications
@CNYKnifeNerd2 жыл бұрын
@@johnkeitcgau4511 My 2 most used knives in the last 6 or so months are Elmax (custom) and s45vn (CRK) and the Elmax definitely has noticeably better edge retention. Ive never used production Elmax (first world problems...) but I could imagine the custom HT protocol contributing to my experience. Either way, s45vn sharpens a hell of a lot easier and strops back better so I'd choose it over Elmax 90% of the time.
