*I do recommend it but NOT with 600 pages that's OVERKILL* I did the challenge on a smaller scale (120 pages in 30 days [4 pages a day]) and I still failed! but I did learn a lot from doing it, and it's really fun especially with a tiny 5 by 8 sketchbook.

Again has i mentioned in another channel, this seems much better for a comic or animation artist and not intricate/complex illustrator. Certainly not dumb just not the right thing for the right person, animators and artists have to draw plenty of hours a day and need to keep their styles consistent through out. I mean some schools have you fill a whole sketchbook with studies for each month, comic artists need to sketch 5-20 pages a day to keep on schedule, certainly more for the people that take pleasure to design various assets and want to discipline themselves to work hours straight than casually put an idea or two every so often. Still courageous of you to try Kasey!

I don't recommend it. It's probably better to be doing studies at your own pace, and actually understand and look at what you're doing instead of trying to move at a breakneck speed trying to finish the sketchbook. I've done something like this for animation class (but not NEARLY as taxing), so been there, done that, wouldn't ever recommend it. Just pick up a sketchbook and go your own pace. It's not a race. save your money off buying a 600 pg sketchbook and actually try to enjoy and apply what you learn to things you like. Sorry i'm just. Super against this challenge, I don't like seeing other artists tax themselves and stress/burn out over an arbitrary challenge that you may or may not get anything out of, but I love your videos, Kasey~!

Voltie Completely agree Is better to have a small sketchbook that actually helped the artist to improve and experiment than a gigantic sketchbook full of a bunch of drawings that look all the same

I agree. I bought the sketchbook myself but I couldn't do the challenge. It's currently full of studies and oc junk. I draw a couple of pages a day but that's it. It's far too much.

I did this challenge twice while I had high school with no problems. If you like sketching like me I think you'll enjoy the challenge.(sketching a lot is good for animating practice which is why it was easy for me)

I definitely think that the SLAM sketchbook challenge is a bit of a stretch, a better thing to do would be daily studies, chose things you want to practice on a daily basis, like anatomy, faces and hands and put a timer on them and get down to work. Something I really want to bring attention to is artistic injuries, like carpel tunnel and what not, please young artists when drawing take breaks and stretch the last thing you want to do is injure your hand and not be able to draw, amazing artists like LOISH and Yummei have warned times and times again about those injuries, and the SLAM book challenge could trigger it :/

Baylee Jae was the first one I came across that was doing this, and the moment I heard of it, I was like "Well, that's going on my list of NEVER going to do challenges". But succeeding at stupid stuff does have it's appeal... Maybe one day when I have way to much optimism and love for my KZbin. Maybe. Also, here's a last page suggestion: Draw yourself wearing sunglasses. Or like a smoking pencil or something😎😂

Such an extreme undertaking! I can not believe anyone actually finishes this! I doff my cap to you! I have never just drew in my sketchbooks I use them for project development. I have not ever FILLED a sketchbook! even when illustrating a book I used about 3/4 of one book but that's the most I ever completed. I am glad you used this for your channel and It helps us get to know you as well!

I feel like this challenge would be a lot better if some aspect of it was let up a little bit? Like either more time to complete the challenge, a smaller size of sketchbook, or less pages altogether. It can definitely be helpful to practice and sketch a lot, and if this challenge can help you do that that’s great, but once it gets to the point where you’re dreading it I feel like it’s an opposite effect.

TheGov I can see that and to each their own! Just personally I feel like it’d be more effective for me if some aspect were altered to make it a little less intense, because a lot of times when I’m forcing myself to draw/dreading it, my sketches become a lot worse than they would be if I paced myself a little more with them instead of cramming pages and pages into a few hours :) But if that’s something that works for you you’re definitely very powerful haha, and I’m glad you see it as a good challenge!

I tried this and honestly SAME I didn't complete it because art that I force myself to do comes out looking crappy and I don't improve. I just scribble and who does that help? I've had that sketchbook since August '17 and tbh i love the size of it, but uh nah With school and work it was damn near impossible.

I would recommend getting it and filling it as fast as you can at your own pace. Can you get 20 in today? Great! Can you only do 5 today? That's fine! Maybe just see how fast you can do it if you REALLY want to do it.

I use 120 page sketchbooks normally and did 6 days of 20 drawings a day at the start of the month. Maybe you could try something like that? 😊

I think I might try this challenge when summer rolls around, because of two reasons. First off, I'm terrible at finishing pieces, and I think just pushing myself everyday will help. Second, I need to work on not being a perfectionist. Have to draw that many illistations everyday would help me overcome wanting to change every little detail. The challenge would also force me to make full page drawings, which I don't do but really want to. :)

I know this feeling strongly. That's how I feel about namowrimo. I have beaten it 4 times and I would say it taught me a few ways how to not write a book. The first couple of weeks are great, but by the end I hate writing and nearly everything I write during that later period is bad and unusable. Sometimes challenges can be modified. Try a three hundred page book, or a two week nano. But it is useful to try out the full challenge first. :)

I feel like this challenge would be good for quick gesture drawings and 1 minute drawing challenges. as you said studies should take time so you fully understand what it is that you're drawing. you can't fully understand the anatomy of a human in 5 minutes then move on. this would also be good for character designing/fleshing out your OC's/comic stories etc. I hope to attempt to do it one day...
