I like it, we have a sprung anglepoise style 1001 lamps desk lamp. Push button on top and only phase and neutral to the bulb. I reckon with the routing on the cable and points of wear the frame should be earthed, but if you have a flex that has an outer coating, maybe it is considered to be double insulated and so no earthing requirements? I like the sticker on the bench too!

Owen, it's earthed at the point of connections and the flex has an outer sheath, so I recon that's just grand. Lovely lamp with a new 60w LED and just great without any springs. I picked up a similar desk lamp with counter weights from Uncle Harold's workshop. Hope all good, hope to try that phone for vids this week, cheers

I have an LED 5v version....for jobs on my bench.....you can change the color temp of the light...and brightness no counter balances on it though sooo flops about a bit..springs are not as good... this is probably how they used to make them...... I have a hand inspection lamp...same without the bendy bits and balancers and black and red wired...... but now with a Bcap led bulb............ these old ones with filament bulbs keep you warm too... Fun vid Best wishes for the new year.... N x

Neil, good to hear from you, yes the counter balance method is much better than springs, probably more expensive to make. Lets look forward to the new year, cheers

Cheers Andy Lovely find, dont make them like that anymore. Drafting tables going the same way. Give me cardboard aided design anyday.

Indeed Sam, it's just the thing for the work bench, video area, and yes cardboard design lets you really see what's happening, cheers

Good job Andy. I'm surprised you don't have a box full of those switches! I fixed a similar designed desk lamp wirh a bad switch. I used a comparable switch out of a tumble dryer. (Had spade connectors)

Ian good to hear from you, yes I'm surprised but they are a common failure point. I've not come across a good one that I didn't want to use where it was, cheers

Andy 1 : Cast away lamp 0 Well done for sticking with it Andy, perfectly serviceable and now fully functioning with the correct attitude and skillset applied! How about a future episode of lathe basics, those machines changed the world but seem like a dark art to use and superseded somewhat today by CNC machines

Matt, good to hear from you, yes this fix was a bit of an adventure. Let me think about your idea, my lathe is nothing special but maybe a few simple techniques. Here's to the new year, cheers

Andy, turn on the appliance then run down the cable with a voltage detection pen to quickly locate the fault.
@TheInfoworks6 ай бұрын
Yep, that would give a good idea, cheers

I just Googled the 1001 lamp company and was impressed with the second hand values that came up for their 'Anglepoise' type lamps.
@TheInfoworks6 ай бұрын
Hi, yes looked on Ebay, but all of them were the anglepoise spring type. I'm thinking that this drafting lamp may be quite rare, long arms, no springs, and counter weights, cheers

A design for a work shop, or a drafting table. They may have replaced the whole cable, except the part to the bulb holder and switch. After getting everything connected and back in place, I was thinking he is going to drop the light bulb 😂😂, just to add to the frustration. You are right, some people put great store to patina on objects.

Hi, no built in stress factors with these videos, just plain get it done. It's a great long reach lamp and I'm pleased I've saved it from the crusher, cheers
