it's not the tourism it is the fact that they don't limit it now the people that live there can't even afford an apartment, they need to do like other cities and limit how many tourists can enter at a single time.

It’s no different than what’s going on here in America do they think something special over there about Spain? The housing market is out of control it’s all about greed. Most of these corporations are buying up the houses, driving the market up and then renting out their units at unaffordable prices.

Doesn't AIRBnB help average people and tourists when hotels are overpriced?
@VRitasium
@VRitasium Ай бұрын
Neither ban airbn nor tourists make sense. There's 10k airbnbs in barcelona and only 30% of them are fulltime rentals, most of them belong to people who rent out their apartments when they also go on vacation. Barcelona has 650.000 homes, so this is smaller than a dropplet (i.e., 0.45% of actual impact). This will do absolutely nothing, pure scapegoating. The high house prices are not motivated by airbnb but by: 1) a decade of very low interest rates, coupled with 2) limited supply due to the fact that most places where people want/can live already have construction 3) the fact that people want to live in the city due to economic oportunities 4) absence of incentives to remote work. 5) inefficient/insufficient transports between the city and its suburbs Furthermore, prohibiting airbnbs will: 1) concentrate the tourism income on the large hotels, instead of the average home owner; 2) reduced tax revenue This will just take power/money from the average home owners and give it to large hotels.

These people will cost them lot's of money instead of the tourists bringing it in. And they still won't have a place for themselves to live. Because the number of migrants coming in is larger than the homes being build. Wages will stagnate as some of these migrants provide cheap labor. @@Benny_M_1922 Tourism brings in money from overseas economies into circulation which, helps lower interest rates and increase the ability to borrow. Both of these are huge culprits for the poor having their income whittled down and not being able to afford housing. The money is then funneled into the government through taxes. I highly suspect, although I have not read into it, that the government is then poorly using this money which is all too common now. All this will do is reduce the amount of money in the economy and exacerbate the problem, as the government will have even less money to poorly spend.

@@ridiak3637 sorry I've misread your comment: you are right. This money is used to pay for urban services even for less well-off citizens. This is how wealth is redistributed: spraying tourists with water guns is rude and doesn't pay the bills

@@Benny_M_1922 Yeah exactly. It’s also important to remember that the government needs to be held accountable. Without people being vigilant and realising politicians are siphoning money into their pockets from bonuses and pay rises. As well as big firms grossly overcharging the government of which a lot of politicians are investors in again siphoning money this problem will never stop. When you are a politician you have ample opportunity for personal greed to overcome the good of the nation and unfortunately that is happening everywhere. Most politicians are from privileged backgrounds also so policies that help them are more likely to get them in the good books of their peers so it is a vicious cycle.

@@markrouse2416 I sadly think you are right. It is interesting the 'peculiarities' that made Spain attractive in a short term in a long term have been his grave. I mean: Spain and Italy are "almost" similars but Italy has not been a "permissive night owl country' More expensive?: peace and a little more quality has a price! . At face value it can seem "brilliant" And in a long term? not at all. Local people have found impossible rentals, noise sometimes until 5 a.m in some cases. Please, I don't want to generalize!, In some cities people drunk and naked- sometimes in a literal way- and a rude behaviour...I insist, not all people has been like that and now not all people is like that who is saying "tourist, go home" Even if you don't believe me Spanish people has suffered pros and cons of tourism. Of course incomes of "popular destinations" has increased. I don't want to deny it. Some business people has found a 'boom' and some hotel cleaners- named 'kellies'- had found a job and a nightware at the same time. Terrible laboral conditions, most of 'kellies' who began at a young age are disable for working more or less at the age of 50, of course without a 'buoyant payroll' I don't want to seem a snob but in this places local educated people didn't want to be eternally a waiter. If somebody reads me, I don't want to underestimate any job. Again, I am afraid some northern clients who were drunk thought "I can do what I cannot do in my country, because I am on holidays" were unpolite with the waiters and respectful tourists were blamed. Perhaps I repeat myself but the thing is: law-abading people, including tourists, didn't feel confortable with this "party animal bid" Believe me, I don't hate you. I am neither ashamed nor proud of being Spanish: I was born here. I am afraid some Spanish people will rebuke me: I insist, in Spain and Italy there are all kind ol people but Italy- as a state- has had more prudence and of course Italy will have a reward.
