Darn ! We could still use rain to put subsoil moisture, and keep the dust down. My prayers go out to you. Second fickle year in a row for the Midwest. Thanks Chris.

Man Mr Chris, I am so sorry😢 That had to be a huge blow, esp right here at prime fall agribusiness time😳 It seems the weather guessers can't predict anything anymore. That is awful😢 My prayers for you my friend, please keep us posted on how things go. Never long winded when you are explaining the ups and downs of the hay business. I got super lucky to grab my last cutting before any rain, although I did have alot of ditch bank hay that never dried. I had to throw it out myself 😳 Thank you sir for bringing us along, and keeping it real. Prayers my friend, hope things look positive soon!! 😁😁🙏🙏🙏

Thanks Nelson. Working with the weather has become one of the most difficult parts of farming anymore. I just don't understand how we can't get an accurate forecast for a few days in a row.... Glad you were able to do some hay this year 🙂

Dang! Weather guessers strike again... At least your daughter got some good seat time experience.

Yup, I hope none of them ever play the lottery because they will sure lose 😆 My daughter really enjoys running the tractors and helping. Sadly in a few years she will be off to college... Thanks 🙂

Sadly, trying to get hay baled up can be very stressful, needless to say. The "Weather Guessers" can really make things aggravating when they predict no rain for "X" amount of time & it ends up raining when you're ready to pull out the baler. The Ol' Timers used to say "Cutter in the rain & baler in the shine". Take care.
@dehavenfamilyfarm2 жыл бұрын
Sure is aggravating! I like that saying, though we are short on shine 😏 Thanks Ron!!

I had the same problem showers maybe Monday but three days of a lot of rain all the hay was rained on. I dried it some and wrapped it but l have cows to feed maybe l will make out.

Sure sucks when that happens... Hopefully you can feed it out. Thanks 🙂

This year we made 3 180 acre cuts and each had a 10 day or more window to store over 2000 4x5 rounds for the rebaling side of the operation

Unfortunately, it happens..... A normal summer, we get a lot of washed hay.. feel for you!!! We are 10 days into rain now, and the 10 day forecast is all rain. Can't get barns cleaned, have a tractor and disc that won't be moving anytime soon, it's parked in the corner of a worked up field... it's not moving.. the joys of farming 🙄 Take a deep breath and have a happy Halloween 🎃
@dehavenfamilyfarm2 жыл бұрын
All that rain would be extremely frustrating. Hopefully you'll get a break in the weather here and there to get something done. I think I need a deap breath and maybe some yoga too 😁 Thanks Ed!

I bet the guys that been in a drought for a couple of years straight would not agree with that statement. So, you about all finished up with bean harvest? Haven't seen any harvest videos from you yet... That's some tough luck there Chris. If farming was so easy everyone would be doing it...

In my case I have the ability to irrigate, so if I had to choose one, I would pick too dry. Sadly, we get the hand we are dealt. Hopefully it will all work out in the end. Thank you for your support 🙂

If it’s any consolation to you, you weren’t the only one that got hay rained on that week. They can’t seem to predict the weather more than a day or two out anymore around here. Hope you were able to at least salvage some of it for mulch hay or something. Take care.
@dehavenfamilyfarm2 жыл бұрын
No I sure wasn't. I think about everyone around here had hay down that got rained on. Weather forecasts are a joke anymore.... Thanks 🙂
@ikonseesmrno73002 жыл бұрын
The forecast for rain usually changes when the first stalk of hay hits the ground & that can be a pisser. I've had that happen quite a few times. I am curious though.... don't you have a tedder? Could have sworn you did. If not, can you borrow or rent one? I sure hate to see hay going to waste.
@dehavenfamilyfarm2 жыл бұрын
It sure does change quickly! I do have a tedder, just short on dry sunny days. Thanks 🙂
