Thousands of fish leap out of water at same time - Slow Mo!

Weird Jumping Alien Asian Carp Invade the Illinois River. In the 1970's silver carp were accidentally introduced into the Illinois River after escaping from a fish farm. The fish mistake pressure waves from the propellors of the boat's motors for the movements of predators and jump with fright. Each jumping fish scares its neighbour, causing a dangerous chain reaction.

So, I get that invasive species don't generally have predators, but why not? what is stopping other fish from eating the Asian carp? if the carp are too big, what is preventing other fish from eating the babies?

This is pretty awesome. You can just drive a boat through there fish will literally hop onto it. Free dinner! You don't even need to fish!. They could just wear some protective gear like helmets or something if it's dangerous.

Sadly, these fish are taking over in the rivers and streams of Western Ky, are in Ky. Lake, and Lake Barkley and are interfering with fishing PERIOD. It's not so much fun to go fishing when these things start moving and spook the bass, brim, crappie...They grow so fast, their own natural predators can't eat them fast enough. UGH!

They were not accidentally introduced..."we" introduced them to get rid of our algae problem, and now it is regretted. I guess we'll learn about taking what "we" want from their natural habitats in order to suit our own needs.

I think they can't comprehend the surface of the water. They are swimming along and all of a sudden they are too close to the surface and go UP instead of down. What goes up must come down on Earth...so back in the water they go...but they have no clue as to why the water they were swimming in disappeared for a few seconds.

To lower their numbers seems like an obvious solution. Run a line on of boats in formation with nets just above water that can catch the fish.

put a 3' dia PVC pipe cut lengthwise out each side of the boat canted slightly forward. Fish hit tube and slide into center into a holding tank. Go to the fish fertilizer plant and off load. :) Might have to hang this out the back of the boat. Seen some where they fish seem activated to jump in wake of boat.
