Right in the heart of Portland, Oregon White Sturgeon gather by the thousands each winter in the urban harbors of the city. This catch and release fishery is one of the most phenomenal big game fisheries in the world. Catching fish over 7' in length is practically guaranteed and most days will leave your arms hurting.

I catch a ton while night fishing for pikeminnow. Half a nightcrawler on a size 6 hook and 8lb leader and they cant resist.

When I was a kid we took a vacation to the bonneville dam and looked through the windows and the fish ladders. There was a sturgeon that had to be about 6’ in the ladder and as a kid it looked like a shark, it was so big. Pretty amazing animals

What a way to end the video! The first one I ever saw, a buddy and I were scuba diving on a VW Bus, that had gone into the Snake River. We were on either side of it, looking at one another through windows. He motioned for me to look behind me. I turned around to about a 7 foot monster staring at me, about a foot away!! I was terrified!! I was about 13, and had never even heard of a sturgeon!

There are monsters below Bonneville dam. I hooked one years ago that 200yd spooled me 3 times. I had to chase it down eventually tore my 50lb swivel in half. Guessing it was over 6ft

Might be a good idea, to beef up your tackle so your not stressing the larger adult fish by playing them too long on light tackle

Last September a friend and I went with a guide on the Willamette River for sturgeon, catch and release only. Caught a lot up to five foot and then tied into one that took 40 minutes to get to the boat. It was about 8 and a half foot long. Very next cast I hooked one that took us an hour and 35 minutes before we even saw it. It was a bit over twelve foot and as big around as a fifty five gallon barrel. A very strong fish that dragged the anchored boat 40 yards upstream from where it was hooked. Had a terrific time and only saw one other fisherman. Go, if you ever get the chance. Below Bonneville Dam in June is good for trophy size sturgeon. Our guide had a client bring one to the boat that was measured at 22 feet long.

This is amazing! I wish I had the confidence to fish for whites from my Kayak but up here on the Fraser River I am scared I will hook into a 12' + Giant. I miss fishing the Columbia for the consistent action with smaller 3-5 footers!

Not lead but plenty of other heavy metals and PCBs for sure. Closed to harvest
