Central Washington was reshaped by a series of catastrophic floods at the end of the last glaciation period. These floods were caused by the periodic damming of Lake Missoula in Montana by giant ice dams that would fail and send massive amounts of water across the region. These floods carved out huge canyons, scoured the landscape, and created massive waterfalls and natural lakes. Some of these lakes now support a variety of fisheries including some excellent trout fisheries.

When I was 12 years old, my mom dropped me off here with a float tube and a fly rod while on family vacation. I had the best time of my life, and it really cemented the love for fly fishing that would take me on a journey that continues to this day. I was blessed to call the area home for half of my life, and I always love going up to the lookout with new people and showing it off. Cool to see you had some fun there!

The aftermath of the Missoula Floods is always incredible to look at. Some day I'll bother to do the research and figure out how the Columbia cut right through the Cascades. Surprised Cascade Locks isn't "the world's lowest mountain pass" or something. I think it kinda has to be. Definitely a great day of fishing, but honestly the geology is more interesting. 😅

The rods you were using are my go-to rods. I love em for perch, bass, trout, bluegill. I run the 7ft light. I’ve brought in 5 lb bass bank fishing(very little vegetation) with them. It’s a great fight. I always have two in my car for random fishing stops

Yes Dry Falls and the road is terrible. Huge potholes and boulders. You need high clearance.
