@maryl8753 some are post 48. Many were migrants from Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th century. The original Orthodox communities there, like the Lithuanians, tend to be apolitical or fiercely anti zionist. Post 48 ultra orthodox tend to be mildly zionist (as long as they don't have to fight). This partially is due to the culture handed down. The original families passed down the memories that thier ancestors fled pograms In the Russian Empire and the community in Palestine accepted them and allowed them to practice thier religion for decades in peace. The ultra orthodox that moved post 48 saw it as an opportunity to get subsidized Torah study. You can tell the difference as the older communities refuse to accept any money from the state. Neutered Karta and Satmer jews are fully self funded. Those are the ones who tend to be most virulently anti zionist. Many of the other communities are more opposed on purely religious grounds that they are supposed to only study Torah.
