Thrasymachus was a Greek philosopher and sophist who lived in Athens during the 5th century BCE. He is best known for his appearance in Plato's "Republic," in which he argues that justice is nothing but the advantage of the stronger. Thrasymachus believed that the strong have the power to define what is just and unjust, and that the weak must obey their definitions. He was known for his aggressive and confrontational teaching style, and his emphasis on the importance of power and self-interest in human affairs. Thrasymachus also wrote on rhetoric and oratory, and was known for his ability to persuade and manipulate his audience. His ideas had a significant influence on the development of Greek philosophy and political thought.
