That makes so much sense. I love gsp but I’ve seen you using mono so I thought I’d give it a try. It is absolutely great. This was 3 weeks ago, now I’m tying it like you. Mono - tail and body, GSP - dubbingloop heads. Thank you for always educating me to tie smarter and more durable!

My rule is GSP and UTC for trout flies and MONO for predator and salt water flies. Every one has its place. GSP 30 is absolutely the best for smaller trout flies and midges. Been using MONO for salt water flies for a very long time. No I find myself using it more and more on bass n pike flies also. Great videos ! Keep them up !

Thank you for making me feel less crazy, I also heard great things about Veevus GSP and now I'm just anxious to use up this crap, it's just a slip n' slide of frustration! Definitely going out next shop visit to try the flymaster plus!

Great video once again. I started using mono about a year ago for streamers. Quit using everything else. Years ago I used Kevlar for big flies. Horrible thread for the most part. Super strong but easily cut materials. I also like mono because as you’ve demonstrated numerous times you can weld it with super glue.

I've never tied with mono, but I guess I'm going to try it. I agree with your colors though. I was at a class one time at Schultz Outfitters by Bob Clouser and he said that the only three colors that fish aren't afraid of are black, white and red. Keep the good stuff coming.

You will not be disappointed with the mono.

Been tying with mono for decades. even nymphs' now and then. Glad you see it's simplistic value. You did not mention how well it works with super glue making a cohesive tie.

I will be giving the mono a try. I am Using gsp currently myself and I am definitely having issues locking in the taper of my hollow ties

Excellent and informative technical review as usual ! Can you clarify what thread you use for spinning deer hair please ?
@SatisfyingRestorations2 жыл бұрын
I started with gsp and no matter how much pressure I applied my bucktail and deer hair never seemed tight enough. Now I'm experimenting with other options. I love how you never break your thread with gsp but it definitely lacks bite.

Gunnar, l'm just getting into big fly tying. I know you love mono thread. It has alot going for it, but l have one problem I can't get away from. A few wraps and it starts twisting, making bad looking Flys, but more importantly weakening the mono. What am l doing wrong, and how do l fix it. Thanks buds. Being a big fly newbie, your tutorials are so helpful for me.

Why not mono for dubbing loops?

Totally agree about GSP and color. I’ve tried lots of both. Dislike GSP immensely. Color, just doesn’t seem to matter much. Maybe brown and olive, but the white can be colored with a sharpie. 😜

The thread field it’s clear and well covered 👏👏 how about the durability from the salty water environment to the toothy predators and last, the maintenance of the fly after it’s storage in the fly box🤔 Thank you

You and I DEFINITELY share the same dislike of GSP.
