I came here because I am afflicted with a clear hard plastic box with posts and a loose lid for storing thread. I have learned so much !! Thank you for the extensive tour of your storage methods!

I just found your site a few days ago while searching for Ikea sewing rooms. You are absolutely my favorite because you're so quiet and down to earth. No cutesy stuff. Thank you. I'm going to Ikea today!

So many beautiful threads 😻😻😻 I stole one of my hubbys clear fishing boxes about 25 years ago for thread and he bought me a few so I wouldn’t snitch his 🤣 I ended up having more Plano boxes than him 🤣😂🤣. I still use tackle boxes to store craft stuff. I have a green one just for hot glue. I also have clear shoe boxes for storage on shelves. Also store sewing notions, buttons and sippers and such in Plano boxes. We always have had cats and dogs and the hair and dust get everywhere. I use art bins also to store projects in progress. I store yarn in clear bins and shoe boxes along with crochet hooks, knitting needles ect…. I use the larger boxes for looms and such. They all stack nicely on shelves and keep things clean and neat. 26 years of trial and try again keeping things organized and protected. Most of my tins that I started with have rusted so I mostly have plastic.

I love Artbin & Sulky Suitcases. I have sewing, overlocking & embroidery machines. Sulky stores all my: Mettler, Gutterman, Coats & Clark & sulky spools. Artbin stores everything else but my Bernina big black bobbins. An open Super Satchel stores all my factory sealed cones (30+, yes I found an incredible deal and scooped up a lifetime supply). Another open Super Satchel w/top tray stores all my Isacord King spools & King Star Metallic threads. Hint: I use Hugo’s Amazing Tape to wrap around my metallic thread after opening them to store them in the open container so they don’t unravel. It also helps them unwind better when I’m sewing. I have one super and 3 regular satchels that I customized to hold my Isacord mini king spools so they hold 85 spools each. It maximizes the space vs their Isacord insert. Then I have the purple Artbin bobbin cases to hold my brother bobbins. I have white ones that hold my old metal bobins for use on my overlocker so I don’t have to buy multiple spools of specialty thread when sewing special projects. Finally I have two boxes I bought on AMZ with foam in them for my Bernina big black bobbins. Oh & I have an Artbin case for my unwound DMC floss & Darice cases for my DMC floss bobbins. Also I was just gifted Maderia specialty thread that came in their own matchbox car type case. While my collection isn’t as diverse as yours I have LOTS of it and since my JoAnn’s store closed today I bought even more. 😂

Can the suitcase be bought empty or only with Sulky thread in it?
@alluraromel39210 күн бұрын
@ I bought most of mine empty. I won a case 1/2 full at a Demo class when the Luminaire first debuted. My mom recently found one while thrift shopping. She’s always on the lookout for good storage for sewing.

Oh, guys going nuts with foam for tools in work shops--seeing your blue Aurifil boxes, may make my own version of foam inserts with cutouts to suit a drawer or bin! Lots of great ideas you have shown us! Thanks!! (Love the Sulky "suitcase", but imagine it's pricey...).

I’ve been able to buy some similar bins from the tackle box section in BCF stores. Some are quite inexpensive. Not sure what the equivalent store would be around the world. I’m in New South Wales, Australia 🇦🇺 🦘 I forgot to add the most important reason I started this comment and that is I love your sewing thread storage. Dust is so painful on pretty and often expensive thread. I’m so happy to have found you. ❤

If you’re home was ever robbed, and they took all your sterling silver and your guns. They would have missed the biggest cash cow, your threads. The money you must have invested in all those thrilling spools of wonderful threads that you are taking beautiful care of. Enjoy your stitching!

Love it! I have a canvas shoe holder hanging on the back of my sewing room door that is full of my serger thread but you could probably store other things too. Right now I have my garment thread hanging on the wall in one of those hanging thread holders. It has been great but I’m thinking this box system would be great so I can use that wall space for peg board to hold some of my tools.

Thanks for sharing your thread storage secrets. Great tips. I’ve never seen the matchbox used before for thread storage. I have that Art Bi. style plastic box with the dividers for my serger thread but I’m still not happy with how they fit in there. Been looking for serger thread that’s not in a pyramid shape just regular round. I think it would fit better for storage.

You can also find some of those containers at Michaels😊. Thank you for sharing!
Love those small cases for bobbins. Have 2 for regular sewing. One for metal bobbins I use on 12 needle embroidery machine when I need same color thread top and bottom. The foam spaces hold tight! Travel well.

Several years ago I bought a mechanics tool chest. Its roughly 5 feet tall with many shallow drawers. Onecdrawer is all 12 weight thread wool, cotton, pearl cotton. Another drawer is all 30 weight thread, mostly cotton. Cotton machine embroidery threads in one drawer, so on. The taller drawers hold all cones, serger, decorative and regular. Every drawer except 1 is thread. The bottom drawer is stabilizers. I would go nuts fiddling around with all those plastic containrers😅 The chest is on wheels, and there is additional storage in the top. Go look at harbor freight, mechanics chest is perfect.

Thread is outrageously expensive! Hope you have a good Home Owner's Ins. Policy! Note to new sewing indivuals. Her inventory is great. She is deep into her sewing. Do not over buy thread; buy what you need at hand and take your time. Thread does eventually degrade; that is a nightmare if you are sewing clothing.
