Good afternoon Lucy, I am definitely trying the tie off of the threads. When i first started I saw people use those silicone holders. They are ok.. but once it starts going down they are not much help. Also like you said you have to remember where you put it.. It gets in the way or even falls on the floor. I am going to try it your way. Have a wonderful day and thank you for sharing!

I forgot about that - once those silicone thingies fall in the floor they pick up every speck of lint and fuzz. Oh well, you tried!
