I have to review these videos from time to time as I don't use my machine very often. The manual doesn't address bringing the thread over and around the pin on the tension disk. Your explanation makes sense to get the most out of the tension disk. Thank you.

Finally, a video to show the proper way to thread these machine! Ive been having so many problems with my new machine, even the guy who sold it to me didn't tell me this vital aspect (pin on the first tension ring element!) THANK YOU!!

Thank you so much for this clear video. I have spent the last two days trying to decipher the poorly written manual that came with the Reliable 4000. It is a great machine and I knew there had to be a step I was missing. Your video saved the day! That little pin mechanism on the tension dial is the crucial step. Now I can sew with abandon, thank you!!!!

See my UPDATE! After further research, I was ~WRONG~ about the thread going over this pin. The thread does NOT go over the pin, it goes from the tension disks down to the thread controller. Sorry for my mistake. It seems logical, and it works well this way, but from what I have now learned, it is incorrectly threaded. Sorry...

Great details. I have a 206-rb1 which is the same machine. At the triple hole thread retainer ive never seen it fed that way. I approach it like a stairwell and skip the middle hole for all my projects if I need more tension for whatever reason then I will go through the middle hole as well. I'm gonna try it the way you showed us. Thank you

Thank you so much for making and posting this video, along with your corrections. We just received a donated Consew machine. Have never used an industrial machine before, but am really looking forward to using it to make our hot-selling purses, made out of handwoven (thick!) fabrics.

You are correct at 3:02 where you say for thicker pieces do not loop thread around each hole. This creates too much tension for thick projects. I only loop around every hole when sewing silk or chiffon (thin, slippery fabrics)

I appreciated the video on threading the 206 consew it was very helpful , I have a 118 consew much different , I learned to sew on a singer treadle so I was able to get mine to work One thing you may have missed was adjusting the tension or that may be a different issue. I'm going to look harder at my machine and see what is the right procedure for threading it .trial and error got mine working at first it was breaking the thread , The manual on line helped but still left me in the dark at the tensioner . THANKS LOTS

Super clear. Thank you. Any suggestions to my problem of the bobbin thread not picking up would be helpful. I thread mine like you do.

There are several adjustments to the bobbin area and they should be checked that they are within specs according to your specific machines manual. I use two manuals, one for the Consew 206RB and the other for a Seiko STH-8BLD, which is a twin of the Consew. The bobbin area is a very important area to have set right, as something off will NOT feed the bobbin thread properly, or jam and tangle thread. The settings are not hard if you do them. You will need some feeler gauges in metric. My machine was off in two of them, but now adjusted, it works very well. The safety clutch might also be 180 degrees out of time. I had that happen once during a jam, before I adjusted the machine to spec. Easy to fix, but you need the manual to tell if it is off or not. Basically, there are some complex tasks going on under the deck, and a few important adjustments. After that, it is all based on the shape of the parts, which is non-adjustable. It either works or the part is broken... Google for the manuals for you machine, of if you have a Consew 206RB, message me and I will email them to you. Hope you get it fixed.

Nice video! I love my Consew 206 RB1. Any idea why my stitch length doesn't look like I'm getting the full potential. I think I should be able to get 5mm or so. Mine look to be about half that. I have it adjusted to what appears to be the maximum.
@SurvivalCitizen
@SurvivalCitizen 3 жыл бұрын
It gets complex, as that adjustment is cam controlled. You will need the adjustment service manual found online. Either the hand lever mechanism is off, or the cams in the sewing head where the needle and foot shafts are.

I'm looking for a video on how to put a bobbin in a consew 210. The Bobbin assembly is sideways vs flat and bobbin is in a metal casing. I have sewn on one similar to this in your video but this 210 is different and my bobbin winder is too large for this type if bobbin also which has me confused.

thanks for the vid. I just got one of these and am trying to figure it out. This helped a lot. My question for you is what would cause a bird's nest on the bottom when I try to backstitch. I am trying to sew leather and the stitch tension looks good, and it works great until I try to backstitch. thanks.

I suspect thread tension / bobbin tension... Does it knot up when sewing thinner fabrics, like denim or nylon? The leatherworker forums would be a good place to ask this question. I do not have much leather experience...

Thank you for the excellent video. Could you explain to me the purpose of the felt pad ? I see other brands of machines that have a guide in the same place but they have no felt. Is this just to wipe the thread to remove dust? Thanks again.
@SurvivalCitizen
@SurvivalCitizen 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure why exactly... In high-speed sewing the thread can get quite hot as it friction slides through the path, so maybe a place to add some oil? Not sure why.

Although the manual disagrees, I think you were right. If you are sewing with Tenara thread, you definitely need to go over the pin on the tensioner. Tenara is slippery and you need the extra tension.

I recently bought a consew 206RB-1. Machine works beautifully. My only problem is I'm now trying to use an extra heavy top stitch thread for leather - Nylbond Bonded Nylon HB 346 T350. It is a very heavy weight. I cannot get the machine to properly sew with this thread. Have you had any experience with this? Thanks.
@SurvivalCitizen
@SurvivalCitizen 10 жыл бұрын
I have never used thread that thick before... I would look into using LESS wrapping holes before tension ring, as thread that thick will not need those additional wraps for tension. This may help it slide through the tension disks easier. You also may want to check if this machine was even designed to handle that size of thread... It is really designed as a FAST industrial machine, not for heavy leather with thick thread. Other machines far more expensive do leather like that far better I assume...

around 10 27 you go to pull the bobbin thread up. MINE has a hard time doing this with ease like you make it seem to be.. does the foot need to be raised up to do this? ive always done this with the foot down...
@SurvivalCitizen
@SurvivalCitizen 6 жыл бұрын
Diagnosing complex sewing problems is tough without hands on, but it sounds like your TIMING may be off. Timing being the synchro of the needle to the turning bobbin shuttle. You may also need to loosen the tension on the bobbin case where the small slot screw is near the spring steel finger. You should be able to pull up the bobbin thread foot down or up. Hope that helps.
@guerrokingpep
@guerrokingpep 6 жыл бұрын
The reason it is easy to pull on the thread is because if you notice the lever to the foot is up and therefore the tension disks are open. Once you pull the lever down the disks close and bring back the tension.

Just a heads up- putting the thread around and above the the pin in the thread discs can cause a groove in the pin and cause the thread to shread. It is not supposed to be above the pin. I ran mine around the pin and kept shredding thread and took forever to figure out why. The pin is soft and will groove very easily.

I always like to know which rotation direction the bobbin will rotate when loaded and pulling on the threat. I believe that would be counter-clockwise. I only mention this because my wife is always putting the bobbin spool in backwards.

I ordered #69 nylon thread on Amazon and it's shredding and breaking in my consew machine but works fine on my Singer 4452 home machine with multiple layers of vinyl. Are some industrial strength threads just not as good as others like with home sewing?

+Becky Benitez I know the Consew specifies a LEFT-TWIST thread, but I have never seen anything but that in the military surplus thread I buy on eBay. Does your Consew sew properly with other thread?Sounds like it could be a few things: wrong needle size for thread size, tensions not set properly (most likely upper tension assy rather than bobbin tension), machine not threaded correctly, or worst of all, something is out of adjustment, maybe the bobbin carrier timing.If the thread is LEFT twist, then it is not the thread but the machine... Good luck! I will help the best I can...

great machine but ask anyone and they'll tell you too slow it down. Brushless servo motor are great but loose their power in low speeds. This may sound like I don't like servo but I change all my clutch motors to servo. Adjustability, speed control and quiet. 206RB is a heavy duty machine and the motor is great if you slow it down, so the answer a pulley reduction system. You can buy or build them but aim for a 3" to a 9" and you'll be happy. I also use a lot heavier thread usually Tex 138 on a 20 to 24 needle and silicone spray always..

You made a comment, but did NOT explain WHY the CONSEWs "RB-5 and up" aren't worth a "plug nickle".. I JUST bought an RB-5 and was under the impression, based on ALL that I read, the RB-5 and -6 were the top-of-the-line!! I coulda bought a "Kung-Fu" machine for one-fourth the money, but all that I read rated the CONSEWs rather highly.
