In between this and the video on getting a bobbin wound and put in the bottom, I have gotten my secondhand sewing machine ready and stitching! It was an exciting find, and I'm so glad to have it working, so thank you for the content! Just good ol' demonstration of what to do *and why*. Saved these for reference, as it's a complex machine! Cheers!

Thank you so much, for this, and your other Kenmore 1914 videos. You saved me the cost of a new machine! My mother's machine has been giving me grief for years, sometimes it works, sometimes it won't thread properly, sometimes it all jams up. I followed All your instructions. So, I'm not really sure which one made it work, but it WORKS! Thank you James. :)

Thanks so much for sharing this. Just found my mother's sewing machine that has been unused for many, many years. I was at a complete loss as to how to thread it. After all these years, I was stunned to find this video!

I am delighted to have help you. Remember to give your machine some oil. If you need anything else, let me know.

Thank you for your videos. They have helped me so much. I do not have the u-shoe which serves as the base of the machine where the monogrammer and buttonholer attachments snap in to, so I can’t use those accessories. If you learn of anyone parting one out, please make it known. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for your video. Your instructions are much easier to follow than the directions in the book.

Thanks very much. I still have the manual, but the pictures are very small and difficult to understand. This made it a lot clearer.

I have the same machine. I got it as a gift in the early 80's. I don't have the cams for it. Would you know what type I need? I've been looking on ebay. Thanks!
@jamesrogers99111 ай бұрын
There are a few options. The tower of power, the cams and accessories are in a dark case that looks like a book. The cams can be green and orange, or grey. They are all basically a wagon wheel. The ones in this link look white and orange. You will notice that some are one layer and others are thicker at two layers.www.ebay.ca/itm/134924963365?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=RqOHSx-1R4C&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=DLL43dQ6TeK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Lucked out on one of these used and am tuning it up - thank you so much for the demo, hard to find good resources on it and it's a complex little device! Very thorough. Will string it with this video on behind it :P

Could you show a video how to adjust the tension?
@jamesrogers9914 жыл бұрын
What are you thinking specifically. Top thread tension, or bobbin? For sewing in general, or embroidery, or something else?

Thanks so much for this video! Definitely made the manual more clear. I was wondering if anyone knew how or where to go for spool pin replacement? The ones im seeing online dont match the manual or this video. Any help would be appreciated!

It is an excellent machine. It is a free arm which makes it useful. As well, it has the famous Kenmore buttonholer on it.

hello I have a Sears Best Kenmore 1914 sewing machine that has not been used in a long time. I need help adjusting the timing, could you please help me?
@jamesrogers9915 жыл бұрын
This should be easy to fix together. What makes you think it is out of time -- what is going wrong? What does it do or not do? This will make it easier to find the issue.

I just purchased one of these machines & the poor thing is so banged up, dunno if there's any help for it. It was obviously dropped several times (it has dents to prove it) and the frame is now completely out of alignment in several places. It breaks my heart but fixing that problem is well beyond my mechanical abilities. I'm wondering if it's even worth keeping? 😥
@jamesrogers9913 жыл бұрын
I have had a few horrors like that too. It makes me want to cry. The options are to part it out, or find someone who wants a project to repair it.
@patriayvida68503 жыл бұрын
@@jamesrogers991 - Thanks for your reply. I can't stand to see it & the sewing quality has suffered as well so I've decided to part with it with much sorrow. Hopefully, I can find someone who can bring it back & make it shine again. 😰

I am sitting in FRONT of the machine but you are showing looking down from the top so cannot see at all what mechanisms are going on.. My model new to me but old is 158.1880 and no knob on front but different I think from yours. Wish I could see what you are actually doing as I cannot follow your words alone.

What a nightmare to thread
@jamesrogers9913 жыл бұрын
It is easy once familiarity takes over. It appears odd at first because most of the thread path is hidden when the lid is on.
