Martin and Dave come over for a visit with their 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air's.
We all had a great time visiting, plus eating lunch at the Coney Island on Woodward at 14 Mile Rd. I rode up in Dave's Bel Air, videoing all the way, then riding home in Martin's Bel Air. Both Bel Air's were amazing.
Next summer I hope we can go cruising together. If any viewers have a 59 Chevy in the metro Detroit area and want to cruise together, please leave a comment.

Wow! For sure this was one of the best times with my 59! It's amazing how well we connected, and just how easily and seamlessly we shared our stories and experiences. That day, we talked details and nuances of our vehicles only 59 enthusiasts know about! We could've been at the diner for many many more hours perhaps even getting kicked out after closing time! Even though we really just met, I felt like we've known each other for a long time! I'm looking forward to more times together - imagine the 3 of us cruising together on Woodward! And a future visit to my dear friend Martin in Canada. More fun times to come for sure! Thank you Howard for getting us together!

That was a super fun visit, as all three of us have the same 59 Chevy interest. Can't wait to get all three 59 Bel Air's on the road together. A visit to Canada will be fun...... haven't had my 59 Chevy over the border in decades. Glad we could all meet up, it was a fun visit that made me feel much better! I love your Bel Air. You did a fantastic job of modifying it.

I'm glad that you like the color of my '59. It is my favorite color combo too! It's called Gothic Gold and Satin Beige on the roof. I'm able to look up any original color that GM used for the '59's because I own a salesmans book that was used in promoting and ordering the cars. Next year when we are together in Canada I'm going to bring it out and Howard can show it.

This is the one of the best days I've had with my Belair. The 3 of us are certainly bonded for life! We get and understand the draw these vehicles have over us. And we have to thank you Howard and Old Car Alley for bringing us together. I'm glad to hear that there are going to be more get togethers with our 3 Belairs. I'm hoping that there will be a trip to Windsor in the future as well. I'm sure your viewers would like to see an international flare to your station. By the way how was the apple pie? Take care my friend.

Wow, that was a very interesting grouping of those 2 59 Bel Airs, and the stories that the guys had about them were also interesting. It will be something to see next season, when all 3 of you guys are out rolling along. And aside from a triple set of 59 Bel Airs, it's a triple set of 4 door post sedans, cars which probably have a lower survival rate than 2 door hardtops, so that's extra special.
@OldCarAlley
@OldCarAlley 11 ай бұрын
I know..... most parted the four door sedans out to restore convertibles and coupe's. Chevrolet built a ton the the four door sedans compared to all the other models though. I often find 59 Chevy owners have interesting stories on why they wanted a 59 Chevy.....
@Martin48964
@Martin48964 11 ай бұрын
Very well said Tom! You usually see '59's in the shape of our cars in an Impala form of a convertible or 2 door hardtop. And I'm sure many 4 door sedans that were worthy of being kept were sacrificed for these two other models. The 3 of us have examples of the everyday cars that built families. I love it! (Although Dave's car now wouldn't be considered a family car! Lol)

Being from the UK and quite naïve on US cars (that are not shown much on TV/Film) I was a tri 5 and in particularly a Chevy 1957 fan. When I did see a 59 I would assume it was a Smaller Cadillac (which still rings quite true), although I still like the tri 5's the 59 is now my favourite. I prefer the rear lights and front trim on the 59 which the 60 lost (looks plainer) and lost some style for me personally. Great video, Thanks Howard👍

Yes the 60 was a much milder version of the wild styling of the 59 Chevy. The 59 Chevy is my all time favorite car ever produced....

This is great. Growing up my dad had a 59 Chevy wagon that he liked to drive. He parked it. We won't know the reason was parked the story just let me know. Anyway so decades go by. And going now back maybe ten years this guy been bugging me for two years hard and three years before that even. I did not give him the I don't want to sell it price. I just gave him the price. I thought it might be worth and I did not want to mess with it. I told him $5,000 he says I'll get 4900 for it because I never give full prices what he said. I look at Masai won't take $4,900. You can have it for $4,800. I'd already warned them Hugo Jack it up make shirts well-supported you're so Rusty underneath that you can race body off the frame. But the frame was good. Had a nice drivetrain in it. Still got four door blue 59 sedan setting in the barn for almost 50 years. Benin family now for about three generations. I don't think we're going to get it done. So if somebody is interested in buying it I'll talk with him. It's got the original interior and it still looks good. Hey you know it's going to happen that old threads going to come loose you have to stitch you all back up probably. Oh I like the car. But it never got to top of the list of things to be done. I will say the cameraman writing in each of these cars today in the passenger front seat really reminds me of when I was a kid. whets my appetite. I think I know where I can get a hood at. I know where for $7,500 there's a fairly complete two-door post as well. My car is a Bel-Air. I prefer the trim going down the side on the Bel-Air over them pilot during that year because it looks like a crash cart bumper It's so wide on the Impala. It disrupts the curvature of the body. My opinion the others to share. But these are too fabulous cars thank you for sharing.

I must admit I LOVE the tan one! It's not garish, does not assault your ears when you ride it and most importantly doesn't have those hideous fur cubes hanging from the mirror! (thank you for acknowledging the anti dice crowd!) I think the blue car owner wasted his money putting too many logos in the interior. One in the middle of the back seat back would be plenty! Howard, you should definitely look into those period correct angled antennas for your car, they look super and are period correct. Like the dice, those Cragar wheels do nothing for me. (or the car) Stock Impala hubcaps would look way better with medium width white walls. My uncle had a 59 Impala with an icy blue interior. That steering wheel was fantastic with spacey " lightening holes" and a very graceful Impala in the middle. It was a "flat top" model and all the trim around the windows was chrome!

I'm one of those rare people that like customs, restored and modified cars, due to if everyone had the same restored car, life would be boring. I enjoyed the exhaust with the cutouts to open the headers. There was nothing I would change on the Blue Bel Air. I loved it just the way Dave did it! I would love to bling out a 59 Chevy, though I want to do it to a two door 59 Brookwood wagon..... Nomad trim it out, pulling all the extra chrome trim off the Buick and Olds wagons, to really trim it out. Of course a 348 tri-power with A/C and power everything. That would make a fun project.

Stay strong Howard. Great video. Good to see these three gem of cars together in one video. I heard the comment about the rear end gear ratio I Dave's 59 and that it still has the Powerglide tranny. Can you you say what engine is in the car? It sound like it had a bit of a more radical cam? What engine does Martin's car have? I think we may have seen it in another video.

Hey Glen if you remember in that KZbin video the '59 they used is the same car as mine. I remember seeing it the first time and being appalled that they would waste such a beautiful car. But you know there's a small piece of that car in my car. I needed the ring that sits at the base of the locking button on the driver's door. Contacted the people who were responsible for that test and they took that ring off of the destroyed '59 and sent it to me. So now that's my cars claim to fame!
