This movie is full of gems. The contrast between the Amigos’ outfits and that of the bandits is one of them. I don’t know why but the german walking into the bar always cracks me up.

Sam Kinison was originally cast as El Guapo the bandit chief but his performance was so wild that Chevy Chase believed he was being upstaged and that Kinison would run away with the film, so as a producer on the film he demanded that Sam be fired and replaced. This is discussed in the book Brother Sam, written by Sam's brother after Sam Kinison's tragic death in a car accident when a drunk driver on the wrong side of a highway crashed head on into Sam's car. Note that while Martin Short and Steve Martin have worked together many times since Three Amigos, they did not work again with Chevy Chase. When a close friend of Chevy's died in a fall from a cliff in Hawaii, there were some people who said the wrong person fell off the cliff.

Umm … not sure where the part about Randy Newman receiving an Oscar nomination for his song, The Ballad of the Three Amigos, came from. The film was not nominated for any Oscars. It should have been, but it wasn’t.
