Three Big Bull Moose Vie For Dominance in the Same Area
Welcome to some more fun about the moose of Alaska. Today’s video features three bulls from an area away from our usual filming trails. Come along as Libby tells you about them.
What’s happening at MooseMan? It’s late May, and moose calves are being born this month. We’re currently filming loons locally near our home in New Hampshire. We’ll focus on that the whole month of June, but when July comes around…we’ll begin to prepare to depart for our 9th annual Alaska trip.
Emotions are running high this year, as these trips pile up, the amazing experiences are mounting. It is with deep appreciation that we continue to look back on the lives of Grumpy, Mismatch, Mr T, 22, King James, Boris and Drop Tine. Will Swagger and Left Hook show up this year? That’s a very big question that we look forward to answering.
We will continue to find ways to share all the stories and right now we are working on a “comical best hits” video that should be a lot of fun. Thanks for your continued support and enjoy today’s video.

Your welcome mooseman,that is a good thing that male bull moose get rid of their antlers before winter arrives,it must be the tosterone that bulls can carry around those big heavy antlers for several months before shedding them

Thanks Tricia, I figured it was time to introduce some of the new bulls. I hope to get more content of them this year and if I do, they won't be strangers to everyone here. Plus, they'll be bigger and better! (Well, not so much Bob Gnarly, he's older.) Yeah, twigs. Bleah, huh? But they have to sustain themselves over a harsh, long, unforgiving winter so they get whatever they can get, rigth? Tough animals!🥰🤗❤

That forest, especially with Marley, looks more like an eastern forest than an Alaska forest.

Those birch trees do make it feel more eastern. I love that look in that area. When the devil's club dies off! That stuff gets so tall it's hard to see through it.

Yes, Bob Gnarly...I had to! And it's odd, as much as these animals rely on plant matter to survive, why they were denied upper incisors is beyond me. I mean, horses have them. But not ungulates. They can't bite to defend themselves. Seems unfair!🦷🦷🦷😁🤭🤔🤨🥰

It is amazing to see how they carry their big antlers around so easily then drop off after the breeding season are over with.How long are female moose pregnant before giving birth to their cute and adorable calves?

Thanks for watching, Kim. Gestation is around 8 months, 240 days give/take. Good thing the bulls shed their antlers and spares them from having to pack them around all winter!

Wow eight months give or take is a short time for female cows to carry their calves and give birth to them .Do the cows only give birth to one calf or twin calves?

@@kimhollenbeck1308 They often do have twins. And the calves stay with mom until she is ready to give birth, so she kicks them out before they're a year old.
