Thank you all for watching. This was a fun passage. We used to give out cartoons of Marlboro's to keep the Pilots happy. Then we got a Captain who was a company guy, and he tried to save the company some money by giving the pilots half a carton. Next thing you know, we had a 12 hour wait before we could proceed. We were back to a carton on the next trip.

Taking trips like this really made retirement fun. It’s been six years since I retired, and while inflation has made it harder to maintain the same lifestyle, I occasionally worry about outliving my savings due to sequence of returns risk. I've noticed my withdrawals are making it harder to recover, and it’s not something I can easily ignore. These days, I mostly stick to the boring stuff just to stretch things out a bit longer.

I’m nearing retirement myself, and I had similar concerns. I started investing later than most, and just relying on ETF compounding wasn’t cutting it for me either. After working with a financial advisor, I managed to restructure my investments and am now on track to retire with around $5 million. If I hadn’t sought advice, I doubt I’d be as confident in my plan right now

I usually steer clear of recommending specific people because financial needs are so personal. But I can say that working with Emily Ava Milligan has made a world of difference for me. I noticed her strategies are tailored to fit personal goals and make sense for different needs. It might be worth exploring to see if her approach resonates with you.

I cycled across South of France this week - Coming round Cap D´Antibes, I spotted an achored yacht that looked like Loon. I assumed it wasn`t. Later that evening I saw the crew having a beer at The Hop Store in Antibes. They all looked very happy to be together and they were very polite, great to see. Cycled round the cape again the next morning and the yacht was still there and looked amazing in the morning sun. 👍

With the sudden tragic sinking of sailing vessel Bayesian it has been highlighted that Super Yacht passengers are not required to do a safety drill and life preserver training, unlike cruise ship passengers. Do you see a change to the rules or a voluntary safety drill being introduced on Super Yachts and Loon in the near future ? Do you already do one when the guests board ?
@willexart3 ай бұрын
When I’ve watched loon’s videos of their safety drills I’ve always wondered what they would be doing differently if they had passengers on board. Abandon ship during a fire and wearing the submersion suits for example, what do passengers do? Or man over board, I bet the passengers would love to get in the way and “help”?
@grumblewoof47213 ай бұрын
@willexart Indeed, what happens to the passengers ? I think the idea might be that as there are only 12 passengers, then the 20 crew can help them get off but, as happened on Bayesian, all but one of the crew got off but 5 passengers got trapped in a cabin and drowned. With some irony, I think, Bayesian statistics is a statistical theory and method of data analysis that uses Bayes' theorem to update prior knowledge with observed data... I.e. learn from your mistakes and successes, and predict the future.
@willexart3 ай бұрын
@@grumblewoof4721I was watching a programme about the yacht and the ultimate stability angle amongst other things. I wonder what will come from this and MAIB’s findings.
@grumblewoof47213 ай бұрын
@willexart a youtuber - esysman (name if chanel is changing), has done several in-depth analysis of the sinking, and it seems that nothing can be ruled out at this stage... bad sudden weather event is major contributor, but also, crew errors and design flaws may be significant. The keel being raised, but that is normal when not under sail, the doors to the saloon area would slide open when the ship tilted as they were heavy... this could have let in water, there are side entrances for the helm that are below main deck level and then there are side and rear drop down platforms that could have been open during the storm as the weather was calm before it hit. It was 4am so most crew asleep as well as passengers. We will see what is discovered when they raise it. I expect it will take years and perhaps prosecutions before any new rules are introduced.
@willexart3 ай бұрын
@@grumblewoof4721I think it’ll take a while for prosecutions but maib work quite quickly, I’d be surprised if that report isnt completed before the end of the year.
