Hey Briggsy. Dont worry about sand on the Saltigas. I wade out on sandbars with mine wearing wetsuits and getting pounded by the southern swell in turbulent sandy water. My saltiga swims with me, dunked, splashed, and fully submersed. I chase Mulloway on lures this way , and my Saltiga 8k after 3 years of this is perfect.

Amazing adventure up north in the islands. Some great content dialogue and showing the planning, equipment and grind of effort it takes land based. Awesome mackeral catch 🎉 Your surprise at the smaller metal (reaction bite) getting the job done with first gt of the trip is hilarious….get that you are fishing for a certain type of visual camera strike (high end lure advertising) with the massive stick baits, and you do this day in day out…..my own experience 95% of near-shore bangers not right on a deep drop off or huge current may occasionally eat a massive surface lure, most will not commit until it becomes a reaction next to rocks…. smaller 4.5 - 5” metals and smaller bibbed minnows / sinking sticks (eg cavy’s mint minnow 😂) out-fish the big presentations. Poppers in shallow water nearshore generally scare them away.

@@Briggsy defos give them a check on google! They’re great fun on a light setups, plus you get them from 1/4oz up to 3oz. Its probably one of the most versatile lures we use in South Africa. I reckon you’ll catch anything from flatties to bangers on them.

RokkitKit actually keeps one this trip and it was the first I'd ever tasted. Fresh it was good, bit fishy, definitely a strong tasting fish but I liked it. Few days old apparently it gets a really strong ammonia like taste/smell to it and isn't so great.
