there was a time when we cared. and we cared without hating. WE WERE AMERICANS.

Here's some important history lesson and education for y'all: Black and White" is a song written in 1954 by David I. Arkin (lyricist and father of actor Alan Arkin) and Earl Robinson (music). The song was inspired by the United States Supreme Court decision of Brown v. Board of Education (1954), which outlawed racial segregation of public schools. The original lyrics of the song opened with this verse, in reference to the court: Their robes were black, their heads were white, The schoolhouse doors were closed so tight, Nine judges all set down their names, To end the years and years of shame.

It was considered to be a Pete Seeger song even though he didn’t write it. It is a sweet song about children being together despite their color.

The song Black & White by Three Dog Night celebrates racial equality, unity, and harmony. The lyrics, originally inspired by the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education (1954), convey a message of breaking down racial barriers and embracing a world where everyone is seen as equal, regardless of color.

This song is a cover. Pete Seeger was the original artist. Written as a response to a Supreme Court ruling that states school segregation was illegal

"Black and White" is a song written in 1954 by David I. Arkin and Earl Robinson. It was first recorded by Pete Seeger in 1956. The most successful recording of the song was the pop version by the Three Dog Night in 1972. The song is about racism and was inspired by a US Supreme Court ruling that segregation in public schools is illegal. I'm 67 and white and remember this song well because there were still a lot of civil unrest about blacks and whites into the early 70's. I remember being in school when Martin Luther King was killed. It is a favorite song of mine. I raised my child to respect all races and cultures. She married a black man, and they have given me four beautiful grandchildren. This year makes 30 years of marriage for them. My son-in-law calls me mom because he says that I treat him better than his own mom and family ever did. Hope my comment on the history of the song puts some perspective to the song.

I always thought it meant it takes both parts to make a whole, that we need to understand we actually go together. It's about ending school segregation by race, but means more.

Try and think about the time, there was still very little integration. These happy songs got in peoples heads, and they helped. Songs like this song was sung in elementary schools quite often to introduce white children to the oncoming integration in a positive light. It was meant to be sweet and positive ☮️

Its s very simple message. No need to over-analyze. It was released during a time of great racial tension. Its a plea for racial unity. The word repeated Over and Over Again is TOGETHER. White is better when it’s together with black and black is better when its together with white. We Help Each Other to see the Beautiful Light. Not about neutral colors. Its about Peace and Love.

When I listen to theses songs, at the age of 66, and my life's experiences, it's clear that the "powers that be" do not want the United States to come together. I really think we are more together than apart.

I'm 60 so I don't remember too much from the 60s but I always liked this song. But the older I get the more I realize the that the children of the world are many colors, many races, many financial scales, and all of that matters. The battle to free the whole world has not ended. The s word and deep prejudices still exists throughout all societies and are not dependent on color. Glad to have grown up in the 70s and 80s. Love and togetherness were a beautiful thing

Three Dog Night took their cues from the reggae version of the song by the Maytones that was a hit in the UK the year before. Even though Brown v. Board of Education, the ruling that ended the "separate but equal" fiction that Jim Crow school segregation was based on, was decided in 1954, the seventies was the decade when the process of integrating public schools actually began. Boston had a hell of a time getting through it. The song dropped the year I entered kindergarten and I remember hearing it on the radio, but when it came to Three Dog Night "Joy To The World" was my jam back then. And when it came to songs about learning, "ABC" by the Jackson 5 took the prize.

Love Three Dog Night and the message of this song. The Baby Boomers wanted this, but so many in the government as usual didn't. Mugs, I got your info about the song "Trailerwood" after deleting the e mail in error. Luckily I saw it last second as it flew away but restored the e mail. Toby Keith has a amplifier in his throat lol. Yes people live like this, trying to make the best of it and having enjoyment. People of all colors.

The singer, Danny Hutton, was born in Ireland and very weary of any songs that were politically motivated. In his mind it was innocent.
