Finding your stuff has been huge fun. Grew up on both a farm and commercial fishing boats, and have over the last 50 years managed to forget most of the knots. Great fun not only remember ing the ones I used to know but learning a huge herd of 'em I've never seen. THANKS.

0:56 Use this for tying up a horse. If he pulls back and your need an emergency release you can do it without the rope having to unwrap around around the post/pole.

Thanks. How do You call the first one? I am going to add it into my repertoire for tying up ball fenders in my boat in case I have to grab one on an emergency. Greetings!

can you explain when to use them? showing knots without a use case it pretty useless… knote fulfill different requirements and are most useful for specific applications.
@kennyd2134 Жыл бұрын
Use these knots anytime you need to sevure something, not rocket science dude.

@@kennyd2134 sorry but you have no clue about knots do you 😂😂😂😂 try climbing or sailing then you will learn that different knots have different applications and that it’s very important to use the right knot for the thing you want to achieve.

Can anyone identify/name the knots?
@DG-vo8yc Жыл бұрын
Well, number one is a mooring hitch. Number two is a mad cow knot. Number three starts with a munter hitch and then has some fanciness throw in at the end. Haven't seen that one before.

Safe? I can’t think of a scenario where I’d risk the knot coming completely apart when it’s being used just so I can untie it with a single tug.
@jstretch Жыл бұрын
Clearly you never used these in the real world or have any sailing or cowboy experience..
@herbiesnerd Жыл бұрын
@@jstretchYou’re correct. I haven’t and I don’t. I was a fireman for 30 years and know ridiculously amounts of knots used in rescues and utility scenarios along with all the hardware, lifelines, rescue lines and utility lines. I’ve used the hell out knots that don’t fail or at risk of failing in some pretty crappy scenarios. These knots are clever and nifty but I’d rather stick to what I know. Easy to tie, easy to untie, easy to identify. (But I can throw a mean lariat! I had horses as a kid and my grandfather was an old school working and rodeo Cowboy who taught me as a kid)

@@herbiesnerd What would you use for towing a car? Supposing you have carabiners, you're tying the rope to the carabiners and using the carabiners to attach to the car.
@herbiesnerd2 ай бұрын
@ I had to rewatch the video before I responded back. First, the knots in the video are worthless garbage for rescue or anything life safety related. If you want to tie a temporary utility line used for gear or equipment, ok. For a Caribeener rated and designed for towing, I would 100% use a Figure 8 Follow-Through Knot. The Family of 8 knots are the strongest. A bowline, the king of knots, is easier to tie but not as strong. I was a firefighter for 30 years. Heavy Rescue, high and low angle rope rescue trained. 3 basic requirements for a good knot. 1) Easy to tie 2) Easy to untie 3) Easy to identify You could tie your caribeener with the figure 8 follow-through and leave it permanently attached so it’s always ready to go. A Figure 8 Follow-through is the exact same knot as a Figure 8 on-a-bight except they have different steps to tie them. The finished knot is 100% the exact same knot. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIKnpJSap6dgg5osi=H2CofXH-Ql2SPzWZ

@@herbiesnerd Thank you. At kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3LVXqh-mZ2bbtE (starting at 13:23) he shows which version of figure 8 is easy to untie after a hard load and which isn't. It depends whether the loop formed from the standing end goes below or above the loop formed from the working end.

@notyouraveragegoldenpotato Жыл бұрын
Why? I can whip a bowline out in 2 seconds In any condition. It works well. Never let me down when life was on the line literally. Takes half a second to undo. I'm guessing you don't do this for a living
