To be almost unbearably pedantic, the saying "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" isn't about the Trojan horse. It's because a horse's age can be determined by looking at the teeth. Its rude to gauge the value of a gift in front of the giver.

I find it amusing that this story won an award but that in it they stated (incorrectly) that saying about looking at gift horse in the mouth has to do with the Trojan horse!!! The saying actually has to do with the fact that you can tell a horse's age by looking at its teeth and an old horse is not as valuable as a young horse and you should not offend a gift giver by complaining or mentioning the value or cost of a gift ie dont be ungrateful!🙂

That is what I was going to say ...that it didn't come from the Trojan horse ....but instead you can tell their age by their teeth (not health specifically but a younger horse tends to be in better shape than an older horse)

Was actually a pretty good bit of spooky story until the face on the wall went full horror trope "withered person with a wide bloody smile" mode. Such a reletively nice and unique idea that's really cheapened by having to have a monster like that, and then ending the story focusing so heavily on it, The creepy, shifting location would have been spooky enough on its own imo
