In regards to Caspar's extra gauntlets, it actually kind of makes sense given that in medieval warfare his hands would probably be hit quite a bit. During a grueling battle where he has taken a lot of hits to the point that his gauntlets become more of a liability and no longer provide adequate protection for his hands, he can then switch to the spares.
