So, in the video, you said that a sniper rifle is a weapon that goes against everything the jedi stands for, but taking into consideration the methods and tenants of the jedi, I feel sniper weapons are not so far off in mindset and intent of a jedi. Jedi doctrine uses emotional control and detatchment as a cornerstone of their beliefs and training. Things like patience, subtly, and self control are seen as positive traits in many cases, all of which are crucial elements for any sort of sniper. It should also be noted that precision distance weapons do not require a cold heart to wield effectively and that it is largely drawn from fiction and popular opinion that a person killing from far away through a scope is either cowardly or heartless and has no sense of honor since they don't really "fight fair". The reality is that a sniper can have a number of motives which tend to be more compassionate and less heartless than most other forms of combat. They are natural scouts, provide solid overwatch protection, and can limit death on both sides by clearing out key targets without wiping out all the defences around the target. They also would have the option of simply suppressing targets with the natural instincts people have of avoiding sniper fire by hunkering down behind cover while using less ammunition and with less danger to friendly forces. A sniper with the right mindset is a guardian angel, a low collateral damage dealing combatant, a good source of information, and an efficient and many times near painless death dealer. A jedi sniper would likely compliment the order well in warfare and would be the commander of choice for someone seeking to minimize casualties and win decisively.

@@joda7697 having a lightsaber is good for people like sith, since sometimes you can't get by without killing. A lightsaber can also simply just incapacitate someone and not kill under skilled hands. I actually think that the Jedi rifles make sense, and are logical, albeit dangerous additions to the Jedi's arsenal. Consider that the Jedi were weakest when facing overwhelming odds at close to medium range, and that historically, their enemies would field large mechanical weapons - droids, walker, tanks etc against them. Using the force to scatter and disable these opponents once, maybe twice per battle is fine, but wave after wave leaves a Jedi vulnerable and tired - easy pickings for a lucky shot, or worse becoming frustrated, desperate and angry. A ranged weapon to keep enemies at bay saves the Jedi energy and buys them time, while requiring them to focus on the force and the target. I believe the rifle Jocasta Nu used was locked away because it was a faulty design, and that it used lightsabers as ammunition. That made the sacred weapon of a Jedi a commodity item. Had it been able to not melt the lightsaber placed in it, I think it would have been fine in times of war, or training. The long range rifle seems like something you'd either need a supercomputer or the Force to operate to be able to strike effectively 100KM away with a hand held weapon. That's heavy Turbolaser range. So a weapon only a Jedi could use, powered by something only a Jedi would have, is again, logical, though dangerous. Logical in that the Jedi could eliminate ships or other weapons from a 'safe' distance with minimal loss of life, or if needed take out large chunks of enemy forces at once without needing to engage in melee or large scale force pushes. In this case the danger is from having too powerful a weapon fielded by one person, and potentially the level of focus needed to aim it could leave the Jedi open to attack, or at risk of becoming connected to the target and having an episode like Obi-Wan had when Alderaan died, only far worse. Still, I find it odd that the Jedi excommunicated one of their own for creating a weapon that embodied what they preached so heavily - detachment and focus through the force, because it used tech from a weapon that required being in close contact with your enemy and look them in the eye and hear what they have to say and feel them in the force. But then the Jedi were often very hypocritical like that, so it's not surprising. I feel like the Sith wouldn't want a weapon that left them so vulnerable to attack while in use. Also, that much focus could very well like lighting a flare in the force, revealing your position.
@thalmoragent93445 жыл бұрын
I always wondered why more people didn’t just hypercharge their blasters with Kyber Crystals. I get that they’re rare and hard for non-force users to find, but still. Even then I’d imagine one or 2 people with a Jedi friend or force buddy or Sith leader would have had the idea of making a more stable and powerful blaster so they could house a kyber Crystal on there to demolish most armor and have somewhat of an explosive nature once it hit a wall or something.

What the sith are doing is more akin to nuclear weapons proliferation, the problem is strategic weapons are utterly worthless against a bunch of rebels hiding out in the boonies. You can't bring them in line by threatening to blow up a city or planet, because they don't hugely care about it like a bigger government would. A closer comparison would be the antipodal bomber that was proposed to Hitler and actually got funding, despite other scientists like Von Braun saying the technology of the time couldn't make it a reality. The antipodal bomber was basically a near orbital bomber that could have flown far above any AA defence at the time to drop a bomb (in the case of the plan, a dirty bomb) onto US cities with impunity. If it had been made to work (it wouldn't have, material science wasn't there yet) it could have been used to make the US back out of the war due to threat of rendering large cities unlivable, that's the power of a strategic weapon. Compare that to the French resistance, Russian resistance or other resistance groups, and no amount of irradiating cities will dissuade them. Strategic weapons just don't work on decentralized gorilla forces that have nothing to lose. The death star was probably the biggest, most stupidly terrible waste of resources Palpatine could have ever built. A fraction of the effort put into a propaganda cam pain would have done more. But then he wouldn't be a cartoonish villain. He's played off as a master strategist, but it's not really ever shown in the media.

I wouldn't call it a projectile weapon class, but a directed energy weapon class. A class that I wholeheartedly welcome. I also like Ezra's original lightsaber, but I'm a sucker for combo weapons. A lightsaber derived anti-materiel rifle with an effective range of 100km? Oh HELL yes!! Sure it's kind of not for Jedi, but I love weapons tech, especially ones that innovate for practicallity. Shouldn't the light bow from Rogue one be listed here? I seem to recall it using a kyber crystal and it was for an order who guarded the Jedi tombs. According to the new vehicle book, some of the New Order's star destroyers use kyber crystals in their main cannons, and the new canon says the Death Star used kyber crystals in its construction (saying it's powered by them makes little to no sense), so apparently that's what the Sith decided to do.
@kauske5 жыл бұрын
Just an FYI, a modern firearm is still directed energy, directed kinetic energy. If you're hurling a hunk of plasma, that's also still matter, and a projectile that obeys ballistics. The one exception is an actual real laser, witch is a directed ordered photon beam. As photons have no mass, they don't obey ballistics, however, they have their own set of governing factors that make them hard to use in atmosphere. You also don't have any significant travel time to the target if it's within eyesight, but you would need to keep extended contact to transfer energy into it. Even ruling out the curvature of a planet, there's no way you'd have an effective range of 100km in atmosphere, even with terrawatt lasers. The closest thing would be very, very powerful artillery guns using shells that burst in air, or guided missile weapons. Even out at one KM, most weapons are well past their effective range unless they are full on cannons. And those are usually not firing a small single projectile or stream of projectiles at a singe man-sized target. At 100 km, you'd actually have to compensate for the Coriolis effect too, the ballistics would be a nightmare for anything unguided.

@@kauske I suspect that the 100km range is for exo-atmospheric combat. Also, directed energy weapons pretty consistently mean weapons whose destructive energy is not, or only partly kinetic.
@kauske5 жыл бұрын
Directed energy weapon is a real world term used fo lasers and other light-based weapons like microwave guns. Plasma is just physical matter, even if it's high energy. If you classify plasma as a DEW, that means the clearly conventional shape-charge, which uses hot metal to cut through a target is also a DEW. Same goes for HESH and about a dozen other conventional weapons that were invented during WWII. Also, 100 KM in space is a joke, that would be like bringing a butterknife to an ICBM fight. If you're fighting in vacuum, your range is infinite, no matter what you are slinging. There's nothing much to stop anything you shoot in space.

Can you imagine a Jedi or Sith with a light saber blaster similar to DC villain dead shot’s wrist gun

Pitch: Multitools powered by kyber crystals. Not enough to make a full saber, just a knife, but also a stun blaster, a light source, a computer spike, etc.

The way I see it I'd the rifle Jokasta used dated back to the old Republic or the Jedi war of extermination against the Sith. The question is did it melt the lightsaber in it because of a design flaw or because it was old and no one had done proper PMCS on it for thousands of years. Oo'ob's farkiller seems to be an improvement or further development of the above weapon, unfortunately for him it was at a point when the Jedi Order decided guns are bad. That said during the Sith/Jedi wars and the time of the Sith Empire such weapons were probably much more common on both sides. Jedi might have used stun weapons as well but cannon and legends both indicate that when fighting Sith they had no intention of taking prisoners a lot of the time. Precision weapons used by a calm, emotionally suppressed, shooter supporting close combat troops could be a nasty combination. As several others point out being a sniper requires a lot of the same traits Jedi are known for. Taking down a Sith Lord with a sniper makes.going in and cleaning up the Sith soldiers much easier. However being a sniper is not as detached as some might think, unlike most soldiers in fire fight dunking and dodging through cover and concealment against opponents doing the same, a sniper looks right at the person they intend to kill and often maintain eyes on target to confirm their kill. As a result a sniper has about as much personal connection to there target as a melee fighter... from a certain point of view. With the exception of Sith Assassins and rule of two secret masterminds, a Sith relays on channelling emotions in a fight. This is not conducive to sniper rifles. However room-brooms and other area effect and area effect medium ranged weapons amplified by kyber crystals and a Siths Rage and Hate make getting to close combat and face to face with your enemies much easier. To bad KOTOR and SW:TOR were created before these weapons were introduced and discussed, because that time period is perfect for them.

They should canonize a bayonet blaster-saber made from a shoto-saber and a Clone Wars era side arm

In Secrets of the Jedi field guide book, Luke Skywalker was impressed by Ezra Bridger’s first and famous lightsaber/blaster tech he praised it for extreme versatility in combat!!! In Rise of Kylo Ren #2 Luke, Ben, and Lorr found a Lightsaber Rifle tech in an ancient Jedi archive cave. Even Ben Solo was impressed about this technology!!! I wonder if Luke Skywalker allowed his students to build Lightsaber gun technology hybrids before Ben Solo’s betrayal? And I wonder if Rey Skywalker, Luke’s successor will encourage her Jedi students to build Lightsaber blaster and rifle hybrid technology while she rebuilds the Jedi Order?

The only reason why I would foresee the Jedi creating and deploying a lightsaber sniper rifle to be used by specialized Jedi against the Sith armies and their commanders during the Sith Wars of the Old Republic era.

I don't think the Sith would make any kind of lightsaber blaster per say but rather something that used "kyber tech" to amplify their own abilities. Sith were very focused on the self and power within the force fueled by their passions rather than weapons technology. Even their super weapons were essentially amplifying powers they already had and taking Force abilities to the absolute extreme. Perhaps something like Kyber crystal amplified Force abilities like Kyber Lightning or something to that effect.

"I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend." -Tolkien In this context. No matter what tool a jedi chooses to use, if it defends the innocent, the code, and galactic freedom and truth... i say, why not a saber rifle...

Actually, a sniper rifle is the perfect ranged weapon for a Jedi. Sure, it's impersonal. But it's an efficient and precise weapon that takes skill to use, much like a Lightsaber, and by nature it doesn't have much risk of collateral damage or casualties. One shot, one kill, one war averted. It fits the real-life historical inspiration for the Jedi as well - Samurai weren't just swordsmen, they were also trained in archery, both on foot and from horseback.

Sith would make light saber grenades or bombs with no consideration for collateral damage. The precision of a sniper rifle would almost make sense for a Jedi when contrasted with explosive tech.

I’m willing to bet the Jedi Order used Lightsaber Rifles during the Sith Wars when they were more militaristic otherwise known as the Jedi Order’s heyday, seriously they wore protective armor and used actual tactics and strategies so that was easily them in their prime
