Another great thing about the pop-up pit - you can use it like an oven. A buddy of mine takes an ammo can and places it underneath. You can then place pizzas, nachos, whatever, underneath and it works great. Definitely love the sand mat. And wouldn’t leave home without them. Stitches and Stuff makes some small ones that aren’t too bulky - each member of my family brings their own personal mat. I got sick of mine being stolen

Whoa my mind is blown with the pizza oven idea. My meals on the river just got way more exciting!!

While I admit i don't have one yet, those ponchos that Katie and some of the other female guides had on the Rogue looked very cozy and practical.

I used a popup pit on the MFS. Worked great! I bought the smaller one for a planned fly in, small and light trip to Shaffer Meadow this year. Cheers!

I bought a mini set of ceramic fire logs. I stack them on my power stove and make a fire that way. Its propane and I can turn it off in an instant. Also downloaded the sounds of fire app and play it through a bose micro speaker. It fills the void when we can't have natural fires on the river. Ill second the fire pit you use. Its almost zero mess and awesome!

Ooo that's genius, especially on the Rogue when it's not fire season!

Tate!! You sold me on the sand mat when I saw it in action on our Rogue trip! They truly are amazing.

This is awesome!!!! I had no idea that I needed a SAND MAT. But now I know that I need one for my next Rogue trip! Thanks, Mayor Tate!

I would consider sand mats as essential kitchen gear for best practices LNT. Not losing tiny bits of food in the sand should be a requirement for all overnight river trips.

That's a super good point, they are great to have in the kitchen.

I love sand mats on the rio. I like your tip for stowing. I've put mine in its bag, but that's a tough task to fit it in. Much easier your way, thanks!

Sand mat?! Mind. Blown. I’d feel better about paying taxes if we had more of this. Looks like you all had the same size mat. Any idea what size your running? Thank you, Zach and everyone who contributes to Gear Garage

I'm glad your mind is blown! You'll love having one! I have a medium size sand mat (8ft x 8ft), for me and my 3-person tent it is perfect.

Loved this, Tate! The boots seem practical, but I haven't used them. Maybe. I have odd shaped feet.

Here is my must have list. A pillow and sleeping bag. A good tent with two doors that you can stand up in! A cot and a sleeping pad. Comfortable chair. A tooth brush and tooth paste. Clean underwear and shirts and socks and dry shoes. Solar shower and soap. Towel. Sun glasses and a hat. Sun block. Cold beer with a cold cup.. Whiskey with cubed ice in an insulated cup. Butt floss. Milk Duds for elk poop tricks.

Pop up pits don’t work with Dutch oven cooking so if you’re bringing a second fire pan they work but otherwise I need a more sturdy fire pan.
@GearGarageTV Жыл бұрын
There are other places to put your dutch ovens than a fire pan. I've also used pizza tins and oil tins from automotive stores.

Gear Garage I might have missed it but have you made a “Best of River costumes/ party themes”?
@tatetomlinson123 Жыл бұрын
I don't think Gear Garage has done one yet, but I've got one in mind! Costumes on the river are my favorite part of rafting.
