Three must upgrades for Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0 3.0 for speed runs how to install (update in description)

The Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0 is a very popular Traxxas platform. Here I cover three must upgrades for speed and power. These being a front locked spool, steel inner cups, and constant velocity shafts for the front.
Update Note: TRA8350X are good for stock brushed 4-Tec models. But not for brushless models or models that can achieve 50 km/hr. (30 mph) or more. Do not get these shafts if you plan on running more power. Consider Integy or another brand.

I used to have pan cars for road use in the 90's. I bought the Traxxas because it's all wheel drive and it was inexpensive for $229. And it doesn't try to fly like the slash ultimate every time you get over 40 mph. I Purchased the Ford pickup in November and I Love it. It's sloppily put together the a arms are not the tightest and the factory five tires blow of the Rims with the VXL set up, Other than that its a pretty fun road basher that you can get to 70 mph with some fine tuning without stability control.

I used x0-1 diff gears and 20 million in front and 1 million in rear get plenty of traction and hot racing drive shafts

I ended up getting Hot Racing drive shafts as well. The Traxxas ones just keep falling apart.

Would you change the drive cups for the rears as well or just the front? Also what gear ratio would you recommend to hit 100mph safely? I have the 5700kv castle creations combo mamba ESC? And what brand should you recommend?

The front ones are the important ones. The rear ones will last a bit more. In order to achieve 100mph, far more modifications will be needed. You would do a 48T spur and 42T pinion with two small 2s packs in series and get maybe one or two pulls. The issue is a regular 4s pack (say 6000mAh) is two heavy for one side so you would have to add weigh to the other side to balance it and redo the dampers and springs. Any 4-Tec I have see that claims 100mph is modified beyond a 4-Tec. To be honest 75mph is too much in neighborhoods, and fun enough is open places. To reach 100mph... it takes to long of a stretch and it is hard to see the car.

What diff oil do you run in the rear?

On this one, just gease. Locking the front is more important for straight runs. By locking the front, at least three wheels will always rotate pulling the car since the center is direct drive and no diff.

You can. Put thinker oil in the rear. You may even try a spool in the rear.

Is this for road racing setup? Locking the diff seems counter intuitive.

It works for carpet too. You only lock the front, not the rear. TCs are so narrow and small that locking the front makes them handle far better.

@@SpeedDemonExpress I would not because they are expensive compared to the regular ones. I would recommend spending money on lubricants. I really like Fantom Go Go Joice. It is a light oil, and I just lub the bearings often.

@@telecomandorc Thanks. I'm getting a 4-tec in a few weeks. The brushed one. I have several good trinity motors to use with it. Very disappointing that the new brushed motors are so underpowered. I ordered a new reedy 15t radon and it is so pathetic! Probably half or only 1/3 the power of my trinity motors. But at least brushless costs have come down in the last 15 years. I just think the old motors are cooler. Lol. Also have a brushless castle I can install later.

@@SpeedDemonExpress Most people probably dislike the brushed 12T titan, but I actually like it. It last a long time and it is $25 to replace it. I am not a big VXL fan as I think Hobbywing has better options. Now, my favorite setup is actually a Tekin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIu0Z3x5rsuEhLc It is fast on 2s and the motor and esc stay cool for days. My second choice is a Castle Copperhead with their 1412 3200Kv motor: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmSpZYGset9rrrc But the Tekin is my favorite. I got the Castle system to try it on 3s and 4s. But that is too much torque due to the voltage. Your Trinity motors may do the job though. Those things tend to pack some torque for their size.

The Hot Racing STRF288F shafts have been bullet proof so far. The Traxxas 8350X (like I said in the note) fall apart with power. Good for stock form, HT for power. I may try the shocks though. They are very nice. Just like a race TC setup.
