Item sorters are inherently slow. You can only go at double hopper speed (out of a double chest).

Temporal Scout 41 report: subject Zedaph is back in the Cave and the base feels whole again. The fish have been in a state of hibernation during his absence and seem to be slow to wake. Perhaps once he begins using the comBREWter again, its EM field with energize them into full alertness. Subject Grian's chicken run has been a humane way of food gathering. I've actually been inside of it, and I daresay I could live there. Don't cry for the chickens, they live full lives. I am glad that Zedaph has brought the dumbwaiter to the Cave; reminders of adventures abroad and functionality! I cannot wait to play with this version. Lastly, the fish flinger. Only one fish was lost to science, but it died to save many others. Zedaph's contraption gives fish an exhilarating and likely briefly terrifying experience as they soar through the air. As the fish evolve, I believe that this experience could translate into a Creation-like story for fishkind. I'll relay this to the Consortium so they can investigate this in the far future from which I originate.

You can replace the note block observer pillars with a water column going up and a wall pillar going down. Moving a soul sand or magma block (or removing it) from the water column will instantly send a redstone signal up with an observer at the top, and moving any solid block on top of the wall will instantly send one down in turn.

I feel bad that your cool cow contraption became a "kill box." It was a cool idea! Do you think you can build a contraption that gets tripped by a player, that drops cats or bunnies on them? Bunnies get renamed to: 1. Boing Boing Boing! 2. I want a Easter Egg! 3. What's up Doc? 4. GIMME CARROTS! Cats get the name tag Silenced or Silence Me....and get Renamed by Dispenser on them, when trap is tripped and then they FALL on top of the Victim or Hermit! Name Suggestion: 1. Meow Meow MEOW! 2. A standard impulse item sorter circuit can be used to pull empty buckets out of the fish dispenser, so you can just fill the dispenser freely instead of depositing them one at a time.

I have an alternative to the circuit at 19:15 : put an item filter with empty buckets under the dispenser. This way the empty bucket that should be left behind just get sucked up by the hopper. This way your system should get faster and simpler. (I don't know if it actually works but it definitely should.)
