Actually it's Canadian, NOT American. The book is by a Canadian (Louise Penny), the mysteries are set in the eastern townships of Quebec (Canada) and they filmed it in Quebec Canada. All the other cast are Canadian (English, French and Indigenous).The lead character he plays is bilingual - he's French Canadian but went to university in the UK (hence a British accent).I hope his character's French has a Quebecois accent.

Alfred Molina is a much better “fit” for Gamache than the previous movie made for Prime. Better casting. I’ll watch it even if it’s scary because if the dialogue is as good as the dialogue in the books, it will be hilarious in places.

I couldn't agree more. Nathaniel Parker was NOTHING like Gamache. And Myrna Landers was an older, heavyset black woman, not a 20-something fox. Most of the characters in that atrocious film were nothing like the people in the novel. I hope this series does a better job of portraying the wonderful location this is Three Pines. Alfred Molina is a good start. We shall see.

The 'Three Pines' in the books is, on the surface, an idyllic haven. But underneath the cozy village is a feeling of creepiness that can be picked up in the books for sure. I'm glad this series is focusing on both aspects of 'Three Pines' as one without the other just wouldn't work.

Great series, no mediocre acting, good music, good cutting, dual storyline. Gives a good introspection into the lives of american people (real americans/natives; the ones called "indians" by one of the most destructive civilization on the world). Thumbs up from Europe.

I am wondering if we're reading the same books haha. I always felt really uneasy when Gamache drove from Montreal to Three Pines because Three Pines always seemed so fake to me. And by fake I mean everything seems so haven-y on the surface with idyllic bookstores, bakeries, eccentric characters but in reality it's filled with evil. Filled with it.

The show added so much to the books. Just finished the season and it's hard to describe the quality of the acting. I mean there were so many incredible performances - Molina, of course. But also Jean-Guy, Isabelle, Yvette, and Tantoo Cardinal as Bea. Can't wait for Season 2.

Love the serie. First it's normal people being detectives with a good heart. Great story lines and characters. I'm afraid native children taken from their parents happens all over the world. In Australia, New Caledonia, French carrabian islands. Just now things start to be reveal. It's atrocious. And a subject wich need to be more discuss in the media.

I will watch anything Alfred Molina does and the role of Detective really suit him. The only down side to this is the trickle weekly release which mean I will watch next year or maybe at Christmas , at my own pace, without anyone telling me how I should watch it.

Fortunately, I already have Prime, otherwise I’d have to add it before December 2 to my growing list of streaming services.. I was introduced to Louise Penny’s books a few years ago by a friend who is also a book lover, and I owe her for making me aware of this remarkable book series. Ms. Penny is a remarkable writer, and Inspector Armand Gamache is one of my favorite characters ever. November 29th and December 2nd can’t come soon enough!

The series is best read in order, as there are some story lines that continue through each book. The first book is Still Life, the most recent, #18, A World of Curiosities, will be released November 29th.

Alfred Molina is a great actor. But, having read every book and being from Québec, he does not really fit the the image of Armand Gamache or that of a Sureté du Québec chief inspector. Maybe that's where the tone is off. I am certain that it will be great anyway.

This looks like it could be better than the film with Nathaniel Parker. If it’s a series then maybe they will have a chance to create something over several stories instead of a total one-off film. Molina has worked in N America quite a bit, but no sign of anything like a French-Canadian accent in this trailer from him. I shall look forward to watching this, whenever it’s on.

I've been meaning to get around to reading Louise Penny. Such a surprise to see a movie based on one of he books. But, as you, say, will they keep the French-Canadian flavour, or Americanize it, as they seem to do with everything else?

Apparently Inspector Armand Gamache (who is French Canadian) learned English at university in the UK so the British accent for his character is appropriate (this is mentioned in the books). Half the town are English speakers (Anglophones), the other half Francophones. However his wife & daughter & most of his colleagues in the Surete de Quebec (provincial police force) are Francophones & his deputy Jean-Guy only speaks French (and mistrusts Anglophones). I hope there is some French (subtitled) it in for this reason and with a Quebecois accent, not Parisian. It is was filmed in a small town, Saint Armand in Quebec.

Yes, but his character has British accented English (he's a bilingual French Canadian and 1/2 the village are English speakers. My idea of the inspector is more Tom Selleck than the Peter Sellers / inspector Clouseau look alike that was cast. Hopefully I can get past my initial cringe and enjoy the film. I’m a big fan of the book series.
