Had one of those, without the log lifter, for about 14 years. Works amazing. On either our Deere 4320 or Kubota L6060 we just use a bungee on the tractor hydraulic lever. One tip especially if don't have a lifter is we made a basic robust small table out of 2x4 and plywood that sits at splitter height and makes it easy as often want a place to put the big piece while splitting a smaller chunk eg after cutting in half initially. With 2 way knife for right size pieces can also stack 2 pieces and make 4 with a pass to speed things up. Goes even better with a 2 person crew as long as very attentive when operating the lever.

We have the 2265 Split-Fire stand-alone splitter and it has been great for us. We do 12 cords a year and the log lift is a back-saver for sure. The company here in Canada was great to deal with in buying the splitter and any questions after. Have not needed any service for it since we got it. They also hold their value very well around here.

The float position on the valve behave like the float position on the loader joystick. It leaves the cylinder connected to it extend or retract freely. It is very useful with a hydraulic top link and a land plane, a box blade or a brush hog when mowing a field. It allows you to set the height of the three points arms, let the top link float and let the implement adjust itself contouring the surface it's on. I do it all the time and it works perfectly when well adjusted.

Hello from France ! I have a SPLIT FIRE 4203 adapted to my Hyundai R55-9 mini excavator, whose flow rate available to the auxiliaries is 65 l/min, which is more than sufficient because I run at 1400 rpm. Splitting wood without handling the logs with the corn is a treat 😉🤩! . Split Fire offers the 4409 which is the best for a mini excavator! You have to know how to drive the excavator but the work is cooler!👌.

I was trying to find the video where you talked about the price of a cord of wood. I had mentioned it was $700ish a cord where i am in SW Ohio. Thought I would update that as inflation is kicking the crap out of firewood prices here now. That guy selling a cord for $700, is now selling firewood at $1 per stick.... Road side stands are now selling bundled firewood for $12 each. What is everyone else seeing? This almost makes me want to order a load of firewood logs and start selling myself

Neat item but I've never been a big fan of the tractor-hydraulic splitters. Why put all the hours on a tractor engine when they could be put on a much cheaper, cheaper to run and maintain, and easy to replace small gas engine?
@GoodWorksTractors2 жыл бұрын
The average compact tractor owner puts well under 100 hours a year on their machine. At that rate, most would die of old age before the engine is worn out. However, Split Fire offers self-powered options as well.

We use a hydraulic splitter on the tractor when we split one meter long wood. The tractor is small (70hp three cylinders) but still need quite low rpm to move the ram fast and strong enough. Yes, it might burn a little more fuel but the stress on the engine is (to my knowledge) minimal. The splitter was ~2000$ new if I remember correctly. I have no idea what a gas powered splitter able of one meter long wood costs, but maybe a little more? On the tractor we use it's hydraulic oil so no worries about that. And with the low stress the tractor can go "to the end of the world" without any problems. And there is one machine less to fuel and maintain. To all their own. We are all the same, just a little different 👍🏼🤭😋.

Right on the money. I have a 1993 Kubota B2150, and it only has around 2,200 hours. What an excellent motor this is. I would be skeptical of purchasing the newer models. Kubota doesn’t back up their equipment like they used to.

I ended up buying a stand alone splitter for a couple of reasons. First was that I have a smaller tractor and the hydraulic flow just wasn't fast enough to run a splitter with any type of speed. I thought about going PTO driven, but eventually decided I'd rather put a bunch of wear on the Honda motor of my splitter, than put hours on my tractor just splitting wood. I'm happy with my choice, but maybe if I'd had a larger/faster tractor I would have gone with the 3 point splitter.
@MrDoyle072 жыл бұрын
Makes a lot of sense. The tractor already has your power. Why buy, maintain and care for a redundant power system? I have thought about this a lot. My tractor can handle this as an incidental. This is cool as it gets!

@@GoodWorksTractors it's a spec thing if you want all your spools to float you have to pay for that same as constant flow. But nomily you only need one float for a hay mower on my pottinger hay mower we put the deck in float so rides the ground independently of the tractor we have all float and all constant flow just how we spec the tractors at home. Again depends how much you spec your tractors like we have 4 or 5 spools most tractor as are equipment needs that spool banks. No point for somone like your self just using a wood spilter needing anymore then 1 or 2 spool banks. But you would of need to of spoken to your dealer when buying the tractor and specified that you needed constant flow.

Split-fire's manual is a bit squirrelly on the hydraulics details. Seems they should indicate that it needs a "power beyond" type hydraulic connection to operate the splitter without jamming open the tractor valve like you had to

Float won’t provide any pressure, you need “continuous flow.” If you have the dual rear SCV kit on the 2038r it will have BOTH float and cont. flow.

Right, I keep saying this, but we tried both valves in their float/detent/locked positions. Neither worked.

Definitely not trying to be a wise guy here! Just meant to point out that the M4 may not actually have a continuous flow setting, or if it does there may be a separate button like on the 2R. Despite reading the manual, I had to call the dealer a couple of times to figure out how to use my remotes. At any rate, this whole issue seems a lot like the conversation about diverters and third function kits!

@@GoodWorksTractors I also have the m4d-071 and do run a 3 point splitter on mine , I believe you want to use your green lever pushed all the way forward in the detent to provide cont. flow to the bottom set of remotes . And I also do keep the RPMs down and it works as fast as I want it to

They make plenty of self powered units as well.
@richardbrowne16792 жыл бұрын
For gas powered units, Dollar for dollar- I think you would be a lot better buying an Eastonmade Ultra. The Split-Fires are slow and lack good workspace for splitting large rounds.
