Three Reasons to Deliver on a scooter than in a car

Along time ago I did a video talking about using a scooter for delivery service. Ever since I made that video it's always been an idea in my head to see if it is feasible to go ahead and give it a shot. With the epidemic that's been going on right now a lot of people are doing delivery service because their regular jobs are on hold right now. So to make money there doing deliveries, and other things of that nature. I started thinking about the cost of deliveries, the wear and tear on your car, the fuel mileage and the cost and insurance in 5 why wouldn't a scooter be a better option to do deliveries. So I signed up for post mates and received my company debit card and I am ready to do deliveries. This is the first video in a series to see how good in suburbia it is to use a scooter to deliver food and goods to people at their homes. I hope you guys enjoy this please like and subscribe and stay tuned for more videos in this particular series.

I just started delivering Postmates with my Vespa. For drinks I have a six cup drink tray/ cup holder I bought at home Depot. I keep that tray in the small insulated bag on the foot plate. Haven't spilled a drop and drinks keep temp well.

I do that also, I stay least 20 feet back maybe 35 or 40 feet at most, never tail gate, always positioned to be visible to as many drivers as possible, but yes always off to one side or other when stopping behind a car at a light, I even keep my front wheel turned in a direction that will be safest if I did get hit, and always being ready to jump off the bike and leave it where it sits

in Indonesia we usually call that "ojek online delivery" (for those uses scooter/motorcycle) ... but we mostly using honda, yamaha, suzuki modern matic (CVT) 4 stroke scooter ... such like honda beat, honda vario, yamaha mio, yamaha xeon GT, and so on.

Hi Ceasar, You could make cup holder by using a firm square foam or pack foam sheets glue them to gather cut around holes in it! Plus use pack foam keep your food warm too!

For the first year, I was the only scooter in my town, even two years in. Now in my fourth year, around ,8 scooters, 2 motor bikes, most are still cars. I even see BMW and Mercedes.

All 3 reasons it’s money... so it’s one reason. In my country everybody working with Toyota Prius with LPG so it’s around 3.5€/100km :)

Insurance in UK for me was £1220 for delivery, cars even more.

I have a yamaha razz, I put a milk crate on the rear rack with a styrofoam cooler. I also wear a cooler back pack. Fitting 1 drink is often times harder than 2 or 3. The times it has worked best for me is reusing cardboard cup holder from mcdonalds ideally the 2 slot box one. It can be used many more times in a row then ripping the 4 slot in half or folding it. My setup could be more optimized. Wish I had as much space as your zuma

On my Zuma You can find all the cutty ways around that aren't roads plus ridding the curb and lane splitting.

Zuma is a great choice, but consider the Honda 125 Super Cub and Honda CT125 Trail. They are even easier to maintain than the Zuma, but probably cost a little more. The Trail comes with a huge cargo rack while the Cub has a higher top speed.

Great video!!! I was looking for a small electric scooter with a seat that has plenty of mileage, but after watching this video, I actually might just purchase this one. I would imagine that you just park it like a normal car, or can you even lock it to a pole too? I am in brooklyn New York so I won't have to travel far for deliveries. I do have a license so maybe I might need one for this, maybe not. At this point, money isn't an object, so if I can just purchase this and have it delivered to me, I can start doing door dash again. That is great if it comes with a rack in the back so I can put a bag of food in there. I hope it is even good for pizza boxes too. And I guess I would put the drinks on the floor in between my feet and hope that it doesn't spill out because I will definitely be driving with two hands, especially in new york where there are too many people to come out of nowhere and screw me over lol. I love how fast it goes too, but I probably won't be going much more than 25mph anyway because I will be in streets. Thank you and have a wonderful day!!!

Fair enough! I wanted to do 10 reasons but I didn't think anyone would make it past 3. FYI : It is fun, you can throw it around corners like a sport bike (I have done it), you DO get to park by the door 95% of the time, and on THIS bike you can carry SOOOOOOO much!

Try 14-17MPGs (FJ Cruiser) 😮, though the boy's new-to-him car gets somewhere in the high 20's to low 30's (depending on who's driving it, for some reason it's lower when I drive it 🤦‍♂️) 🤣 Great topic, and very good points, brother! I'm with you on Uber, they're extremely difficult to deal with. Everytime I tried to take a picture of my driver's license, they would deny it. I just gave up on them.

In the UK you must have delivery insurance. On my scooter normal fully comp for me is £145 per year. Delivery insurance on my scooter is £1200 per year, so it's still a lot of money. Delivery payments are on their way down, it is literally a race to the bottom. Deliveroo is the worst in most cases paying £3.15 for many deliveries. Uber now has a minimum of £3.00 Just eat still pay the most but also lowered their rates. I see rates of £3.50 for some short deliveries, about a mile or more. I've been shown where someone has accepted a delivery for under £3 on just eat, I say why did you accept it? In the UK on Uber, we still don't know how much or where the delivery is before we accept the order. On Deliveroo I often see orders that have been rejected multiple times, I've seen 11 rejections often. Most do this job to make money and as we all do more than one company, the end result is food is often left sitting around as drivers accept more than one order at a time and leave them waiting. This happens because we are at a stage of more drivers than orders, this has a negative effect on the quality of the service. I see orders placed in a car and they return to get another order, what's happening to the previous order, getting cold right ? I see people using more than one phone, so multiple accounts. I see cold drinks going into a thermal bag with hot food. Customers complain they didn't get their order, driver said they left it outside! I hear wait whilst I check cause last order was stone cold. I even hear, oh you are actually on the vehicle the app says your on! There is a complete absence of any quality control. There is a base of good delivery people trying to do a good job, but it's hard to maintain this when the system doesn't seem to care! Nice video, but is that a 50cc scooter, the sweet spot is 125.

You don't mention something extremely important.. self employment taxes, especially for cars. Cars can write off either mileage rate or all vehicle expenses for the year for your job (choose whichever is highest tax write off or just be lazy and take mileage). Can't do that for 2 wheeled vehicles.. so your tax bill for scooter delivery is much higher compared to cars. However you can still take the gas/maintenance tax write offs for 2 wheelers. Still more profitable on a scooter but the gap isn't ridiculous like you'd think. The one major pro is short term gain on a scooter is much higher compared to a car, yes you get massive tax write offs for car usage but you still gotta pay for that gas maintenance etc the whole year, you may be paying $10-15 a day for gas in a car but on a efficient scooter it's only gonna be $3-4 for a full tank. Them self employment taxes ain't no joke!

Question. When doing food delivery on a scooter… do you use wireless headphones so you can hear when an order or call comes in? Or do you just go by visually looking at your phone screen? I mean unless you use wireless headphones, you wouldn’t be able to hear the phone over the engine noise correct?

I have a cardo in my helmet so when it dings I can hear it in my helmet. With the phone in the middle of your dash you can also see it.

Great question, it depends on where you’re delivering. If you’re in like New York City, it’s very urban 50 cc would be just fine. In my case I am in a suburban area so something larger would be better. As for the type of scooter, I would recommend trying to find something with a rack in the back so you can put a box. Also, a scooter with a floorboard where you can put things down on there if needed is good. Apart from that really any scooter will do just be sure to research the reliability of that scooter.

Yes, if you use PAYE insurance. But Uber are hard work, as you have to figure it out, there is no help desk.

1:44 why would they gove you a hard time? its not like Door Dash pays you, the customer does. DoorDash says my 150cc is too large an engine to be qualified as a "Scooter". imagine that one.

Some places have designated spots and someone comes out and asks you what’s your order, some places you park in a designated spot and call, MOD pizza and some other replaces have a rack you come I the door and get what your order is. It’s relatively simple. You just need to have a cool backpack bag like mine

In Texas you need a M endorsement (We only have one motorcycle type endorsement in Texas). I think everywhere you need some kind of M endorsement for a 125cc
