I don’t live in Portland (yet!) but visit the area frequently from Georgia. For me the best thing about it is the community. I love the people, the sense of pride and independence that all run on. Being a northerner by birth (Canadian), it makes me feel right at home with the people. I always have related well with Mainers and New Englanders as well. By far my favorite city to visit and to become a resident in the near future

The East and West ends can be expensive but as you get out of downtown it gets more reasonable. Surrounding towns are also less expensive like South Portland and Westbrook.

Hi John... thanks for watching and sharing you story! I agree downtown Portland and the Old Port are the places to visit. Glad you enjoyed your time in Portland. The dinner you are talking about must be either Marcy's or Becky's. Both are great.

How bad are the winters compared to the Midwest?
@MakeMaineYourHome3 жыл бұрын
Great question and we are posting a video very soon about the weather in Maine. From what I know the Midwest is much colder than most areas of Maine. Similar snowfall depending on where you are in Maine. If you are in a coastal town the winters are milder than inland. How this helps and thank for watching!

Winters aren't that bad....and we don't get the frightening sudden lake effect snow that I experienced living within a few miles of Lake Michigan. We also rarely get anything even close to a tornado here, something my house in Indiana took a direct hit of. Terrifying. I'll be interested to find the video on Maine weather.

i haven't watched the entire video yet but i heard that maine is one of the most expensive states to live in and in addition to that, portland is an expensive city to live in maine. i'm from wisconsin and researching the east coast for me to possibly live in the future. i love everything about the east coast and the scenery there is just beautiful but the high costs of everything is preventing me from moving there.
@MakeMaineYourHome3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kylie... Thank you for watching. The Northeast in general can be more expensive than other areas of the country. I am not sure about us being the most expensive state to live in, I haven't heard that. I might have to do some research and make a video about it. Please feel free to call, text or email anytime if you want to talk more. doug@makemaineyourhome.com or 207-838-5593.
@mytinyretirement3 жыл бұрын
It depends on where in Maine you live. And maybe even if you rent or own. Typically the farther north you go the less expensive things are. Born and raised in the Augusta area, I lived in Portland for 10 years and just loved the vibe. But after living in the Midwest and trying to move back, the sticker shock was very real. It was THE reason we went tiny, to get out from under a $2,000 + monthly mortgage payment so we could retire. I don't think it's THE most expensive state to live in, but it's up there in the southern 3 counties of the state especially. With that said, I feel that Maine is very special, there's no other place like it.
