Watching the second pilot really helped me realize what Suzanne Somers brought to the role of Chrissy. In the beginning , Chrissy was written as the quintessential ditzy blond but Suzanne always played her with this child-like innocence that you couldn’t help but love.

Suzanne Zenor played Crissy Snow first. After they shot the pilot with her they didnt like her and they didnt think she was a good fit so they let her go. But I wish they had found a way to bring back the Ropers, even if it was just recurring characters (if Audra and Norman would agree to come back as recurring rather than regulars). Maybe a storyline where the Ropers buy back the building from Furley's brother, but keep him on as a manager (although, Roper being too cheap to pay a manager, not sure how that would have worked).

I read all the comments here and no one mentioned that Three's Company was adapted from the British sitcom Man About House. Some of the early episodes of Three's Company were taken almost word-for-word from the British import. The Janet character was named Chrissy and the Chrissy character was named Jo in the original. Jo didn't do much in the British series. Man About House spawned 2 spin-offs like Three's Company: the landlords and Jack (actually named Robin in Britain) owning a bistro. Suzanne Somers's Chrissy was relatively mild in the first 2 seasons but got manic later on. Fun fact or boring fact lol: Susan Lanier was once married to folk-rock star Delaney Bramlett.

The only thing they kept, for the most part, was the stage set. Even the front of the building changed from the first pilot. Incidentally, the lost pilot episode was very well written, and all the actors did an excellent job. Their personas and backgrounds were a bit different from what they finally landed on, but it was still a really well-done show.

By coincidence, the 3C theme was actually composed by Joe Raposo, best known for his numerous Sesame Street songs (the theme music, One of These Things, Bein' Green, Somebody Come and Play, etc).

I really liked ‘Three’s Company’ a lot, until Suzanne Somers wasn’t in it anymore. She was so great in that role and the VIPs couldn’t stand that she dared to ask for equal pay with John Ritter. Yes - - I liked him too but the pay difference was ridiculous and they didn’t even negotiate - - just terminated her and treated her terrible during her last appearance on the show. I did try watching it after she was booted off, but it just wasn’t as good at all.

Suzanne Somers breaching her contract by not showing up for work and demanding a new contract with over 1500% pay raise (fper episode) and ownership of some episodes (she did get ownership of Three's Company bloopers written into her contract) is not the same as being "...fired by daring to ask for equal pay..." And Three's Company was at its best when Suzanne Somers (and also, the Ropers) were part of the main cast but Suzanne was not the victim...she, through her husband-agent, was a troublemaker, especially, if true, when she compared her stardom to Farrah Fawcett

I don't think the show suffered at all without her. In fact, I think Joyce De Witt was more important to the show than Somers was.

*...HEY SOMEONE ANSWER ME THIS* ....If Suzanne Somers was hired to put on a Wig and play the brunette walking on the Beach, where Jack falls on his Bike, HOW did they pass her up for the pilot, and give it to this Susan Lanier chick!? ..she looks SO unsure! (0:18) ..never understood that....

I thought that decision was made after they hired Suzanne and to have her put on the wig to walk down the sidewalk...I might be wrong, but I thought I had read that in the Three's Company book. They filmed the beginning credits once everyone was in place and the show was a go

It's weird how 70s sitcoms looked cheaper shot on video with live audiences vs the filmed sitcoms of the 50s and 60s. They got better in the 80s and 90s when video quality improved and some sitcoms still used film stock instead of video.
