You see a lot of people in the car world, especially with the internet giving everyone a voice and audience, coming out with some bizzare/stupid/impossible idea/plan for modifications to their car that we all 'KNOW' cant happen.
And, err, I've done one of them to the Volvo.
Considering most the world (inc me for ages!) struggles to get their cars even running ok on the ancient Bosch Jetronic LH4.2 that 90s RWD Volvo Turbos run on, if someone said to anyone, inc me if we went back a few months ago, "I have an idea, I'm going to make a switchable, three stage, WRC-style anti-lag system for my shitbox Volvo 940 Turbo, using the stock and pretty crap LH4.2 engine managment" I'd brand them a dreamer/idiot/etc.
But a few weeks ago I had a thought about something I wanted to try, and through testing the basic thing I originally thought of, and other ideas that stemmed from when I got that built and working, I ended up with what's in this video, which is, basically, what I said above, a switchable, three stage, WRC-style anti-lag system for my shitbox Volvo 940 Turbo, using the stock and pretty crap LH4.2 engine managment!?
This setup still has a long way to go (made lots of tiny changes already, the solenoid is different, and it was never intended to be multiple stage) and no doubt will make more changes as I get more ideas from testing, but the results so far are very promising, and as ever with me, cost me so far is pretty much zero, as it's just all bits I had kicking about or I made from bits I had and modified, and most of this creation was just having the ideas and understanding of it all to make it work in the first place.
The car doesn't NEED this at all, in any way, but I had the idea and I love testing shit so HAD to see if my ideas would work, would bug the hell out of me if I never knew for sure- As you probably have worked out by now, I work off proof and testing rather than the usual BS claims and opinions of the tuning world!
So yeah, check it out, and a say a little prayer that testing continues to show good results...
