As someone from the Netherlands, I am always so surprised by the amount logistics involved in being a parent in the USA. Ever since I was around 9, my parents never had to worry about who would pick me up and things like that because I was able to cycle to all my activities by myself. And by the age of 12, when my activities started to spread outside of the 10-mile radius from my house, I would just take public transport. Bicycles and public transport: great for my parents and the environment. And probably also for my development as a kid

Being honest, by the time I was 13 I was doing the same thing. My friends and I would bus all over the city. But it's a bit different for some kids. My nieces and nephews don't have a bus that goes withing 8-10km of their house, and they would have to bike/walk along a highway to get to it, so it isn't exactly safe. The Donnelly's are probably in a pretty similar situation.

In America it isn’t normal for kids to take public transportation because we don’t really have them that go far out. Most states arent really city like so everyone takes their cars
