Interesting, it's a shame that #2 doesn't work in cases where the person legitimately didn't intend to do so as it's written into the definition. I'm curious how this compares with conversion or just outright disposing of other people's property without consent. This definitely of theft seems to largely cover the situations where conversion would normally apply.

I remember watching some bodycam footage from an LEO in Pullman questioning a female shopper at Walmart a few months ago who attempted to leave the store with an entire cart full of merchandise from the widest arrangement of departments I think I've ever seen out of the hundreds of these I've watched; From ribeye steaks and desert cakes to an automatic kitty litter box and costume rings with rocks, this girl tries to catch 'em all! The worst part (I didn't want to say "funny" here because that might come across as unsympathetic of me) is when she tried a few excuses I've never heard before. The first one was that her boyfriend was a diabetic and needed the snack cakes, so his mom threatened her life saying if she didn't bring home food and take care of him she was going to {cause her great bodily injury}> Next up was that her boyfriend himself said if she came home with "empty hands" he, too, would {inflict serious bodily injury}. Lastly, after a few minutes of begging the officer to let her go since she returned all the merchandise and believed all was fair like the attorney in this video explained is a common myth, she finally got in the back of the police car without a fight, and that's when she finally came clean with the kind, humorous officer, exclaiming, "It's Not My Fault; I'm A Clepto! I'm A Diagnosed Clepto!". She continued begging to be released from custody, promising to never steal again, but the officer, retaining his funny attitude, replies with, "No Way, {Insert Name Here}; It's out of your control! It's my job to protect you as well as the kind people of Pullman and, since you're a 'Disgnosed Clepto' the only thing I can do to protect you and the kind people of Pullman is to ensure that you stay with me for at least the next 8 hours because, if I let you go now who knows what you might steal next? I'd hate to let you go now then see you walking down the street in a few minutes carrying someone's weed eater in one hand while pushing a push mower in the other, maybe all while riding someone else's bicycle! " And the story goes on. For more, comment here, because the story does go on lol.
