35 years ago my doctor recommended I take Fosomax...I asked her if she would and she said NO! So here I am at 83 and have taken nothing although my bone loss indicates I have osteoporosis. I have never broken a bone. I began extensive weight-bearing exercises 5 years ago and believe I am healthy. I will never take the horrific drugs. Once you begin you have to continue for the rest of your life.

@helenahandkart1857 my dr got me on hrt too. And I'm being very intentional about pushing weights and getting run/walks in more often.. I fell HARD on the ice a little over a year ago, which was after the October 2022 dexa that I never got results on til a year later, and I was fine ( other than tore my groin muscle). So I'm using this as motivation to work out more, eat better. Praying next scan has better #'s.

Plz don't wait until menopause to be screened for osteoporosis. If you have a family history or any contributing factors get screened early. I was told not to worry about it until menopause and had my first DEXA at 53. I had full blown osteoporosis. Drs don't recommend early detection because insurance companies won't cover the cost. I would have gladly paid the $200 or $300 dollars to have the scan early if I was told it could save my life. Thank you for helping to educate women and encouraging them to be proactive in their healthcare decisions.

I got my first scan at age 40 because I had a hysterectomy at 31and it turns out I have osteopenia (the precursor to osteoporosis). I asked for the scan because I had started hearing about teen girls getting osteoporosis after having trans surgery and having hysterectomies. So any time a female has an end to their cycle, whether it's natural or medical, it can result in osteoporosis.

Thank you! I am 44 and have T scores in the -3 range. I had to have my ovaries removed and went into surgically induced menopause at 31. I found out around 36 that I have a genetic clotting disorder when I had a PE and had to come off of my HRT. They’ve tried to tell me I have to start prolia and take it until I die. I’ve completely changed my life and go for my next DEXA scan in May. Hopefully those numbers will be better.

Hi. I am in menopause since 32. Been diagnosed with osteoporosis at 40 and since then on HRT. T scores -3 since age 40. I started carnivor diet (ruminant meet, eggs and butter) 2 months ago and I feel so good (mentally and physically). I feel stroger so I walk every day at least 4 km and do resistance traininig few times a week. I also take supplements vit D3, K2 and animal collagen. I am positive that I will reverse my osteoporosis. So keep strong and do all you can and what is GOOD 4 U.

Hello! I am a very healthy 74 year old youthful woman. Small boned, blue eyes and natural blonde hair. Take no medications. Eat healthy and I have a wonderful active life. I had 7 fractures last year and ended in a rehab center for PT for 39 days. What a shock! On my own I had a bone scan. Low and behold I have severe stage 4 osteoporosis. Saw my doctor and he prescribed Fomax. I said no. I'm trying to do the natural approach. Basically, I wanted folks to know that this can creep up even if you are in perfect health. I asked my Dr. how we missed this. He said they do not recommend bone scans until you reach 70. Said we probably should have done one then. I am devastated, but working hard to reverse as much as I can. One thing I do everyday, is strap on 2 lb ankle weights and put them on my wrists as well and wear all day. Don't know if it helps, but what the heck? I love this channel and benefit greatly from your expertise and advice! Carolyn

It's a frustrating situation. Trying to do what I can to stay away from the drugs, but it may be a tool I have to use at some point. Does make me consider taking them before reaching to much bone loss. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Yes, that’s where I am at. I wonder if I should take them now and hope that they along with the impact exercise program I am doing, the supplements and additional protein might stop it from progressing, or whether natural interventions will help without necessitating drugs. What a woeful condition this is and totally confusing when doctors only offer drugs as the way to most effectively manage it.

Such commen sense info. Thanks. By gut feeling, this is the route I took when diagnoses at 50 (I'm almost 57.) Just as in examples, I got a call after what I thought would be a baseline DXA and warning, that I should take Boniva. Three yrs into menapause and w/a family hx, I guess it made sense, but still... I so wish I'd been offered HRT instead. ... I haven't reversed my OP w/ my natural approach, but I've made some positive progress/held steady, which is still a win.

I am a 76 year old woman. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in April 2023, while have scans for an upcoming surgery. They found a compression fracture at L4. I had a DEXA done that showed Lumbar Spine (L1-L4): Bone mineral density is 0.980 g/cm2 which corresponds to a young adult T-score of -1.7 which lies in the osteopenia range. Both hips had a T score of -3.3 with a Major osteoporotic fracture 34.1%, hip fracture 15.3%. Because of the upcoming surgery the osteoporosis was temporarily put on the back burner. I had been taking prescription anti acids since 2015, not knowing about the bone these drugs can cause. My surgery was to repair a hiatal hernia. Since the surgery, I no longer take any anti acids. Due to esophagus damage my PC doctor does not feel I should take any oral osteoporosis medication and suggest possible infusions. I saw him in December of 2023 and nothing has been decided. Would further testing be of value in deciding what I should do? I have taken calcium and vitamin D3 for many years and have added vitamin K. Where do I go from here? In the last few years I have fallen several times and haven’t broken any bones. I have done some PT to try to reduce fall risk. At this point I’m really confused.

I did take calcium with vit K2 in it but don't know what reversed my spine for time being. Error might have been part of it, but I also worked out hard for a year with heavy weights and changed diet to more protein when I could (not perfect) Went from -2.9 to -2.1. Levels have been fine, Vit D etc and calcium had been lower but now not mid range but just under. My Gyn thought 64 was too "young" for drugs which made me smile but I was still nervous.

I had a DEXA at 29 yrs old, and was found to have a T score of -2.63 lumbar spone, and around -1.7 for hip. In the space of a year, I managed to reverse the lumbar T score well back into osteopenia range (hip no change). I kept working at it, but at age 36 I developed severe ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia. About 18 months later it had become so bad I was confined to bed all day (except to go to the toilet, which I even regulated fluids to minimise how often I had to get up - too many times and I'd deteriorate more). It's now 7 years later, with all that time spent confined to my bed, haven't seen outside world for 5 years I don't meed a DEXA to know that I would have very severe bone density issues by now. Neither my doctor, nor endocrinologists have anything to offer me (re: the whole drug problem when I'm so young). I'm absolutely terrified, unable to find any way through this, and just wondering when the day will be that I might roll over in bed and fracture my hip. I would appreciate any suggestions at all, anything!! Thank you.

I like your first point - asking WHY do I have this? I am 71. 7 years ago I was 1 point into osteoporosis and live an active healthy lifestyle, most people think I'm 55. This year T scores were -2.4 and some worse, 24% fracture risk. Doctor said the meds, as usual. I said first can we do a workup to find out more about what is going on? She ordered several labs. Turns out my Immunoglobulin M score was very high - which may be the type of cancer that eats away at bone. I am shocked to say the least because I feel great and all my other labs were great. I have a PET scan scheduled in a few weeks, and more blood work and meeting with hematology/oncology May 1. I am scared. But what if I never asked? And never found out? I am glad I pushed the doctor and hope whatever is causing that blood protein to be so high is something that can be managed. I'm not sure if all the natural treatments would still help? So people, keep asking! Don't accept "cookie-cutter" treatment from doctors. Each case should be investigated individually. Get screened around age 50 for a baseline. Healing vibes and prayers welcome! Thank you.

I hope things work out for you. I sympathise with your situation and agree that doctors should be trying to work out why a person has osteo. This means a range of testing to determine if it’s primary, secondary or tertiary osteo. If by the M score you received you mean MGUS, I was diagnosed with this too but only after visiting another doctor (mine was not available at the time) and he said he wanted to run some tests for celiac. What he did not tell me was that he was actually testing for the M cell count as well because it can lead to the serious bone cancer you have mentioned … IF it progresses. I was told that they don’t know what causes this high M protein (which affects the plasma cells in the bone marrow), why it progresses in some people and not others and that there’s a fair portion of the population who have it but don’t know it. I was also told there’s no treatment for MGUS and all they can do is to monitor it to check to see if it is progressing. When I had my next blood test for it 18 months later, it showed no MGUS. I put this down to the only thing that seems the logical intervention and that was using the Marodyne vibration plate (which acts to stimulate cells in the bone). I have had another blood test since and still need to check that Im still clear of it. In your situation, just get the results first and then your doctors will discuss what needs to happen. If it’s any comfort, the T-scores you are mentioning don’t sound like the M protein has gotten to the point of danger because when it has progressed, it does start causing tremendous problems for bone. I wish you all the best - these sorts of worrying “discoveries” are unnerving, especially if you feel okay and are still active.

I'm 58 and just diagnosed with Osteoporosis after having my second bone fracture from "minimal trauma" - thankfully both fractures (one in 2019 and one 15 weeks ago) were the fibula. But this one has taken 15 weeks to get 80% healed - 15 weeks in a moon-boot! At the side of the fracture it is still not healed. I have been given Fosamax and plan to take it until I can get the natural things to reverse the osteo! Planning to start a specific exercise regime here in Australia called ONERO - using heavy weights and impact training. But need this fracture a bit more stable before I start that. I will do your free masterclass too - I want to do this naturally. I have another 30 years to manage (my Mum is still going strong at 89 - although she did have to use Fosamax!) - so we must get on top of this Osteoporosis and get off the drug.

I was diagnosed with ostropenia awhile back I don't want to take medication. So I have been doing more walking I am against medication because I can't tolerate it. Then when I had breast Cancer from estrogen dominance. My doctor talked about me going through hormone therapy. I declined being on hormone therapy because of ending up with osteoporosis. Then I don't want to keep being on medicine to medication to combat one problem to another. I can't tolerate the side effects of me taking a lot of medication. I'm wondering if I would be in the same camp as the breast cancer example. I'm a 61 year old male and at almost 59 was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. I had chemo the first half of 2022 with hormone therapy, then had an orchiectomy mid 2022. Also had a Prolia shot in mid 2022, then after an MRI due to some severe back, hip, and knee pain showed some metastasis, was started on Xgeva in October 2022 with my last shot being July 2023. I also started taking Nubeqa in July 2022. I had my first Dexa scan in January which showed 0.0 on lumbar L1-L4 and -1.1 on right femur neck. I think the femur neck and hip socket on the right side is where there were some signs of bone metastasis. Results from other scans in January showed continued improvement with lymph nodes continuing to shrink and PSA continuing to be less than .01, so my oncologist was a little more optimistic about life expectancy and prescribed Fosamax. I was not prepared to discuss this with the doctor, so after being cautioned by several people, including my wife, on the Fosamax, I began research and ran across your KZbin channel. I wanted to try the diet, exercise, and supplements you have suggested first before taking the Fosamax and communicated this to my doctor, who was okay with this approach. Except for the cancer, my health is good to excellent and I am fairly physically active. I would say my strength is back to about 80% of what it was before the cancer treatment. Curious as to your thoughts. It's extremely rare for men with my Gleason score (9) and stage 4 to make it 6 years, so I don't really think my window is that long.

You’ve been through the wringer. I hope for continued improvements and you get through this okay. Just from what I can read here, you’ve had at least 3 Prolia shots? Might be worth checking with you doctor again because once you start taking Prolia, you are supposed to stay on it because of rebound bone loss (losing the bone you gained whilst on it plus more). That’s likely why the doctor wanted you on the bisphosphonate. I’d encourage you to discuss this specifically with the doctor rather than getting histories from other people because your situation is a bit different - and you might not need to stay on Fosomax for a long time. Best wishes and good luck.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I go to the oncologist every 3 months, so I'll at least be better prepared to discuss it on my next visit. I'm also going to ask about the blood testing for the markers of bone health Dr. Lucas discussed in one of his other videos - I have not seen these results in any of my blood tests so far, so I don't think they are testing for that. I'm not sure how long it will take for the Xgeva to be completely out of my system, but suspect it could be over 6 months.@@magpiegirl3783

Thank you for these videos! I was diagnosed with osteoporosis (-2.7) on August 2023 at 56yo. I panicked and a friend going through osteoporosis refereed me to her doctor. He immediately put me on Zolendronic acid IV yearly application. Literally I had a week to decide which way to go. Now that I have more information I have second thoughts and regrets. I’ve decided to stop the drug treatment. I am scared of the side effects. And my dentist told me that there is a 5 years window with just this one IV drug to get out of my body without harming it. Five years of anguish. Would anything wrong happen if I stop it? I had changed my life style. I workout every day with weights. Use the vibration plate I eat better. I take vIt D (it was very low) I am about to start estrogen replacement. (Went through Hysterectomy and ooforectomy on 2018). Thanks again for these excellent videos. Greetings from Mexico City

supplements are not health promoting; mostly very toxic. D supplements are known to be inflammatory. D is not a vitamin but a pro-hormone; not something to be taken lightly. Calcium supplements will eventually clog your arteries. Non which you mention are needed if you eat the proper human diet which is animal based.

I think a big issue is that most physicians are much too fast to hand out a drug instead of helping with lifestyle changes. Drugs are prescribed indiscriminately for anything that is not "normal". This is true of almost every "condition" we can have. My faith in health care providers has evaporated since I worked for a physician in the late 70's. Too much "play by the numbers" which are determined by insurors and big pharma, not by real science.

You’re spot on, mate! 🎯 Very wise of you to NOT trust those allopathic health Scare workers. Big Pharma and their legal (big-pharma approved) drug pushers have done A LOT of harm to people who have trusted them to HELP them to heal. The documentary Making a Killing and the book Death by Medicine are chock full of truth about big pharma and their corrupt practices/crimes against humanity. Be well. Cheers! 💫

DR Doug, can you look at the study "Specific Collagen Peptides Improve Bone Mineral Density and Bone Markers in Postmenopausal Women-A Randomized Controlled Study" and provide some feedback. The results look great, "The differences observed between the SCP group and the placebo group were verified by analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), considering the unbalanced baseline values. The analysis showed that bone density significantly (p = 0.030) increased in the spine and the femoral neck after SCP treatment compared to placebo (p = 0.003; Table 3). In the SCP group, BMD increased by almost 3.0% in the spine and 6.7% in the femoral neck, whereas, in the same period, bone density decreased in the placebo group (−1.3% for spine and −1.0% in the femoral neck)"

I am 37. Got diagnosed with Osteopenia last year. Lost a bunch of weight, going to the gym 2x a week and using a vibration plate. Swimming 2x a week and lots of walking and biking. (have a knee injury, so I also need to be mindful of that). I am vegan but really careful about my diet, bloodwork is practically perfect and still lost 5% in bone density in a little over a year and am now smack dab in the Osteoporosis range. This is seriously scary!

Im confused what to follow. I'm on TSH suppression due to Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma. I suspected my levothyroxine caused my Osteopenia, frozen shoulders & lost menstruation at 48. So without consulting my doctor I immediately stopped levo for more than a month now. I'm ok so far. On the other hand my other Dr (rehab Dr) RX me Alendronic acid last Feb for my Osteopenia which until now I'm hesitant to start bec of the side effect of esophageal ulcer. Im not sure about when to resume levo and if I shld start Alendronic acid. What I want now is to have radiation therapy for my thyroid CA so that don't have to worry about thyroid CA coming back bec I stopped my levo. I'm thinking of having a consult w/ an oncologist abt that radiation. Just sharing. Thank U for ur very informative videos.💙

Thank you for addressing this issue and being there for us , I live in Canada and our health system is piss poor , we can not ask for certain testing unless we pay for it , so if you don't have money and are dependent on the health system well you get what the government pays for .
