My brother and i would go look for him at his wifes beauty salon about 15 years ago. Just to say hello to him. Or ask him about his next bout. "Are you fighting Marquez" again? We were looked up to him. He meant everything to my brother and I to the sport of boxing. He was always very cordial and humble.Never gave us a bad look, treated us almost like family. After his 3rd fight with Marquez the following Monday he was sweeping hair at his wifes beauty salon. His face swollen and bandaged up. Thats the Israel Vasquez I knew. One of a kind.
