Again I am amazed with the simplicity of the video, its such a hard read but is broken down so simply here. Thank you!

This is awesome. My professor explained in a somewhat obscure fashion so this really helped me so much with understanding the specialized capillaries. Permeability might have been a better word than "leaky" though haha.

Hi. The reason is simple, materials like glucose, aminoacids, or toxins from the blood need to move from the liver capillaries into the Hepatocytes ( liver cells ), where they can be converted into glycogen ( a storage of glucose ), proteins ( coagulation factors, albumin ) or detoxified. Hope I was clear.

What is the difference between a vein and a capillary & what is their actual function? I know as EMT's we squeeze the skin to check the ' cap refill ' But what actually causes that?
@dannichols62613 жыл бұрын
7 years later and no one has answered your question? You probably know by now, but for others: Veins return blood to the heart after it has passed through capillaries. Capillaries give oxygen and nutrients to nearby cells, and pick up & carry away co2 & other metabolic waste products from those cells. 'cap refill' is a test of whether blood is getting to the periphery of the body, such as the end of a limb, like a finger or toe. I think SLOW capillary refill can result from dehydration (the blood would be thicker, and thus slower to flow to & through the capillary bed), hypothermia, or from heart or vascular problems (eg, heart attack, heart arrhythmia(maybe?), clots in blood vessels, or external or internal bleeding (thus reducing blood pressure available to push blood through the capillaries, eg, shock)).

Glycogen is not the only reason for this to happen in the hepatocytes. Toxins are also more likely to be filtered out in the kidneys than the liver.
