When we examine aircraft oil filters we rinse the paper elements in solvent (usually fuel) to release all the metal. It releases a lot of metal you may not see otherwise. Then you can filter the solvent through a blue shop towel to capture just the metal. Just a idea to consider. Nice video, thank you!

you should stick a flashlight inside the tube to check if the bypass leaks, usually they leak between the leaf spring and the top plate, they most likely do, and part of the oil is not filtered at all.

Thanks Bud, that is a great idea, on my next used filter I will do that. My subscriber's give me such great ideas.😉

Might the bpv tab have broken when you poked the hole in the filter? I hope they don't get brittle with use.

I'm pretty careful with my hole puncture, I am guessing it was broken before hand.

Am I crazy or are you checking the wrong side of the filter medium for particles? The oil flows from the outside to the inside, so you are checking the post filtration side of the medium, which should obviously not have particles. I also think you are referring to the outside as the inside....which is why you are finding particles in the wrong place.

Your not crazy, I mixed it up a bit but then got it right.
