Thank you for this tutorial, learned a lot from it, one question though, which one of the three ways can you suggest I do when separating body and sleeves and when I have to cast on for sleeves? Thank you.
@10rowsaday4 жыл бұрын
Any of the three ways will work for casting on stitches at the underarm. I usually use the first way, simply because I've been using it for years and it is the first technique that comes to my mind when I need to do provisional cast on. The third way provides the neatest look. It is a bit fiddly when we need to release the stitches later on, but it shouldn't be a big issue for the underarm segment because there are not that many stitches there. In general, the choice is all yours. Try all of these ways and see which one feels more comfortable to you. Happy knitting :-)
@courag15 жыл бұрын
Came across your video again and wanted you to know a way that the provisional stitches can go on a circular needle. Though you might use the cable of the needle to cast on provisional stitches in either of the first two methods, the long tail would not work. But since I've been making provisional cast on for toe up German Short Row socks, I do a Jenny's Magic Cast On. You can either knit the toe then with double points which I prefer or the ends of the long circular. The needle size for dpns and the circular needle has to be the same. No fuss, the cable of the needle can't get fuzzy and you are ready to knit. This cast on may not be ideal for every situation but I like it and the stitches are all mounted correctly. I do start my GSR heel on the wrong side. I tried also the twin stitch of shadow stitch which looks the same on the front, but it leaves more a ridge on the other side. I like them both, good to know both.
@10rowsaday5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing. Jenny's Magic Cast on is a great way to cast on stitches for toe up socks. I also often use a cast on explained in this video tutorial - kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3Slq3yhq8qLaMk Happy knitting :-)

I loved this video, thank you. I think I'd prefer the #3 (LTPC) method since I already is the Longtail CO often and I like the fact the scrap yarn is really secure. Have you knit the 1898 hat? I think you would make the clearest video on knitring it up.. I'm going to check out your videos and see if you have. I wish we were friends and could sit and knit together. Here's a little secret, I'm curious if you're a good cook, I was hoping to find cooking videos for Authentic recipes. ;)
@10rowsaday4 жыл бұрын
Hi Shelly. Thank you so much for introducing me to the 1898 hat design. I've just googled it and it looks warm and comfortable - a perfect hat for anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors. The pattern by Kristine Byrnes seems to be well-written and pretty straightforward. I would love to sit and knit with you, Shelly. Maybe one day we'll figure out a way to get together (most likely, virtually). As to the cooking, I do love to cook and experiment with different recipes. If you are looking for authentic Eastern European recipes, I find the book "Mamushka" by Olia Hercules very helpful. Have fun :-)

Hello! thank you for your video. With the long tail provisional cast on can that work when you knit in the round? My pattern tells me to provisionally cast on 256 stitches and then join in the round. Do you knit a round before joining with this cast on or do I join in the round immediately after casting the required amount on? The first row of my pattern after joining in the round is colourwork. Can you please advise whether I immediately join in the round or knit 1 row first? Thank you
@10rowsaday Жыл бұрын
Hi Leslie. It is much easier to join stitches in the round after we work one row. It will leave a small gap at the beginning of the round, but you can easily fix it by making one or two overhand "bridge" stitches before you weave in the tail. Happy knitting!
@cherylwillis53653 жыл бұрын
Love how easy you make this look. Number 3 works best for me. Question, do you knit 1 row across before starting your pattern? Or go straight to pattern from the cast on?
@10rowsaday3 жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl. I usually work the pattern right from the first row. If you knit all stitches in the first row, this row of knits will stay between the two sections of your project when you pick up stitches from the provisional cast on. You might want to avoid that to keep your pattern uninterrupted. Happy knitting :-)

@10rowsaday5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Shruti, you can use these ways to cast on stitches for working in the round. But, be very careful not to twist stitches before you start knitting. Provisional cast on is quite flimsy, and stitches could easily get twisted. To make it easier, consider working one row before you join stitches for working in the round. Good luck :-)
