• The ONE Thing Every Ch... -~-
How can you identify pride in your life? Are you or those around you slowly turning into modern-day Pharisees? The first sin in the Bible was pride. God hates pride. Pride can show up in our lives in very subtle ways. In this video I take a detailed verse-by-verse look at Matt. 23 and identify 3 ways we can tell that pride is in our lives and how we can tell if we are a modern-day pharisee.
HERE IS THE VIDEO ON JUDGING:
• Are Christians Allowed...

Answering the question of the day: I noticed big time pride creeping into my life. I was being publicly recognized for my postings and videos about God and for some reason in 2018 I let it get to my head.....and was humbled by the Lord. Still working on it, in fact I believe still may be in that process right now. So knowing this, i now often think of the temptation people like yourself, pastors, or famous Christian Speakers/ singer, or anyone in the spotlight may have. That temptation to puff yourself up is REAL. May the Lord guard every servant of His that is in the spotlight of some kind.

@@falsehoodbasher7240 You don’t have to listen if you don’t want too. But yesterday, I read Proverbs and asked God to humble me, and get rid of every pride inside of me. And today a fellow Christian and I were going back and forth and they said I was being prideful, I never paid no mind to it, because I thought I was right (that was the pride in me talking). As soon as the person exposed me, I looked at what the person was trying to say and I actually understood their point. I’ve realized God was humbling me right there, and how I was so prideful that it blinded me to see what was right. I’m still trying to work on it, and I hope one day I can live a pride-free life & be a humble, wise child of God.

@@falsehoodbasher7240 That’s not my intentions at all. I’m saying I’m a child of God, because God is the Father, He guides His children, and helps His children. I wasn’t trying to be prideful when I say “Child of God” because I’m just saying that I need God’s help and that I can’t succeed in life without God, for He created me and knows everything about me. I never knew that saying “I’m a child of God” was some sort of pride, because I always thought it meant u r a lost child in need of a father aka God. God adopted me into His family. I’m not saying I’m like God or Jesus, or anything God like. In my opinion, I’m just saying that I hope to be a child of God who has a Heavenly Father who helps His lost children. Cause He is our compass and our Father. Edit: Also I know we came from humans, but I’m just saying God has adopted His children and chose His children, and is willing to help His children who are lost.

@@saigie3908 ah ok. Well God is not adopting right now. He may in The afterlife, I don’t know, but definitely not now. If you want to honor yourself “servant of God” is The True way. Our God above instead of our Father but that is fine too as long as you don’t think God has or can ever have any biological offspring (or parents). He is wayyy too above His creation for that. He created Heaven and established His Throne *above* it, not *in* it. Thanks peace.

I have been reciting this scripture lately in Proverbs 8:13. "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate" To answer your question: I have achieved many great things in my life or had great opportunities God has given me. But I sometimes boast about what I have done or how people cannot see that I am great for achieving that. I feel that Allen Parr has answered my question of pride. I can see it all the time in human nature, around my friends and family. It is so hard to realise this yourself because you are so caught up about that everything is about you. Pride is such a hard thing to stop as we only think about ourselves and how we can stand out in a selfish way around people. This does not mean to have no confidence in yourself but more of how much we take for granted just because of what we have or have done. It distracts us from God and it sets selfish motives. It's good to be proud of youself for what you have done, but it shouldn't be something that is always thought of or put forward and expressed all the time.

Another indicator of pride is when I see other Christians purposely starting arguments or "holy wars" with atheists or person not rooted in the faith. I believe that if a Christian sincerely was concerned about the person they would privately pray for them or answer belief questions in a more reactive than defensive way

I do the same for some of the reasons you've mentioned. Plus it's a way for me to stay engaged in the text rather than allowing the words to flow through my eyes but out the back of my head. But what brother Parr was saying is using that marked/highlighted bible as a means to get attention where someone else might say, "Wow. You must be really in into the word!" Meanwhile it my have been four months since you've actually read that bible!! The markings were made when you were actually into studying the word. A similar thing could be praying a great seeming prayer in PUBLIC while one doesn't have the PERSONAL prayer life with the Father at home. I recall a story about a preacher who'd just preached a great sermon. He went out to eat with his wife and another pastor and she helped her husband confess that he had no private prayer life.

I have had my Bible since 1983. I have done many Bible studies, sermons and devotions in my Bible and it is filled with highlights and writing. But I also have many other Bibles in different translations and for different studies. Which should I take to church or ministry or Bible study? It really doesn’t matter because I will inevitably learn something new and want to record my thoughts or something the teacher/pastor has said. And I wear a tiny cross around my neck that I never take off. I just love it because my husband gave it to me.

I guess I'm a year late, but this is a great video. Pride can go undetected for a long time, and then sneak up on us so easily. As a worship leader, singer, and guitarist, this is something that is a constant struggle. I can sing or play a worship song, seemingly with pure heart. Then all it takes is one person saying something like "man...you were awesome" and I can find myself wanting to hear more and more of this. I'm sure that pastors even struggle with the same things.

I struggle with the same issue of pride as l teach a small group bible study at my church. Someone says, "That was a great bible study!" and I feel my head starting to rapidly inflate. I must put a pin in it immediately!! We must consider ourselves dead to sin. A dead person is moved neither by praise nor by criticism. What happens if no one pats me on the back? Do l resent it or become discouraged? That exposes my motivation for what l'm doing. God gives us gifts to glorify him and edify the body of Christ. The key words: "GOD GIVES." What do l have that l did not receive? THE GIVER IS GREATER THAN THE GIFT AND THUS HE IS WORTHY OF ALL THE WORSHIP AND PRAISE! If we seek the praise of men here and now we may receive temporary rewards while squandering eternal ones (Matthew 6:1-18, John 12:42-43, Galatians 1:10). God is jealous for his glory (Isaiah 42:8). We must make a conscious decision to point to God and give him all the praise and honor for ALL GOOD THINGS COME FROM ABOVE.

If I do anything well lately, my mind congratulates me way too often, which didn't happen hardly at all before, because maybe I didn't feel I did much well. I would rebuke it, but sometimes I'd entertain it, because I thought that was true, finally I'm getting some things right. It has led to some pride that I've had to repent of. It's so devious, that many times I don't realize I was in the sin of pride, but just think I'm right. I do know when I haven't repented in my heart of any sin, pride comes up really quick. I never thought of me being prideful, but listening to others, I found out I was and sometimes still am. I think more listening and less talking will help me in this battle, as well as obeying God.

Great message dear brother, from Jesus. So thankful to the Lord for your great love for God and His people. I had to step away from public worship because of the pride was overflowing with comments like " Don't we have the best church in the world" or "Don't we have the best praise and worship team in the world" It was not being humble at all. I for one love to live unnoticed an it was very uncomfortable to me. Then it went on to bashing people especially homosexuals. I just couldn't take it anymore. I even made many attempts to bring this to their attention. But I was told it was their church. So my husband and I left. Now everyone thinks we are being judgmental. But I noticed that we were starting to become more like the world and less like Christ. It was unattractive and was not loving. May the Lord continue to bless you abundantly for speaking biblical truth to set those who are in bondage to this world free. God bless ❤️

Once again, great video Allen- love your videos. The biggest pride thing I struggle with is not trying to appear holier-than-thou, or telling people what to do from a religious perspective, but I would say it is more religious politics, you might say. The irony of Christianity is that we have the same text- the Bible, but so many interpretations, and so many denominations and sect based on interpretation- Protestantism (Lutheran, Non-denominational, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, etc), Roman Catholicism, Anglican, and Eastern Orthodox to name a few. I am a strong supporter of Biblical Protestantism, and I greatly admire the split from the Catholic Church during the Protestant Reformation. I strongly support the 5 Solas, which is the backbone mission statement for the different denominations of Protestantism. Consequently, I am anti-Catholic Church- but not anti-Catholic, in regards to individual Catholics. But I greatly disagree with the Catholic Church, like most Protestants, on theological issues. I don't consider Protestantism a necessity for salvation (Salvation only comes through Christ alone- John 14:6, Acts 4:12), but I feel it is much more Biblical than Catholicism or Eastern Orthodox, which is based on Scripture, teachings of early church father and leaders, speculative theology concepts, and tradition. But as Christians, whatever our denomination, we should see ourselves as fellow brethren in Christ, not as an egotistical battle of theology, which I am very guilty of, as well as others, I'm sure. That is my pride issue. I get caught up in the egotistical identification with Protestantism, whereas the focus should be on unity in belief in Christ Jesus.

I thank God my friend showed her walk with Christ on her social media, or I would of never known what a relationship with Jesus looked like! I'm glad she shared that she went to church, that she went to Bible studies, that she spoke highly of her husband..yes I understand that sometimes we can do it for the wrong motives, but we want others to see our walk, with the right motives, so they can see light. If not how will they know? I became a born again with the help of seeing the witness of other Christians, don't hide that you are at church, that you highlight your Bible, keep doing that and sharing Bible verses as long as your motive is to draw people to Christ!:D and make sure it does not take the place of your own relationship with God. Our relationship with God first then He will lead us on how to share our witness with others!:)

True, we mustn't be judgemental but let's not mistake that for speaking truth. If I hear something that I need to change or work on, that's not me being judged, it's truth being brought to my attention. Early in my walk I was always confronted with truths that molded me... and still do. So...I needed someone to bring these truths to light for me. My pride could have prevented me from learning but I listened and had them show me in scripture(always show me) and I grew.

When I was Agnostic, I thought of hypocrisy as a good thing in some cases because you're trying to help others, knowing they're probably mentally stronger and able to implement my advice in their lives better than I can. I'm not gonna argue with the Lord's stance on it. I wonder if it's okay to tell someone to work on something and tell them I'm working in it too, kinda like telling them about their speck in their eye while working on pulling the log out of mine. That's unbiblical though, so I need to practice self control and pray for guidance.

These are great pointers to examine ourselves. One area I think we might be displaying pride is believing that our gifts, positions and duties at church are more important or of greater value in the church than others. For example, some believers who speak in tongues think they are more spiritual than those who do not. Likewise, today we celebrate those with gifts of prophecy and healing than those who are teachers of the word, thus putting them on a pedestal of honour above others and thereby sowing seeds of pride and arrogance.

Sometimes I'm like the Pharisees and even though I try to say that I'm humble I'm really more prideful then anyone else. I feel like I have formulated my relationship with God and made it a religion rather than a relationship because it's easier just check out and check off a box rather than engage God by faith throughout the day

I am going through this and it’s getting worse day by day, how did you repent of it, I ask for forgiveness but I don’t know how to change, I want to but I don’t know how to, it’s an issue with my heart I hate it. I find it really hard to pray, I feel as if this sin is really separating me from him. It’s my fault, any advice?

Guilty as charged Your Honor... Who would have thunk it. The word of God says that we should examine ourselves to see if we are in the way. Sometimes I realize that I am indeed "in the way" but not like it is stated here. My pride and the flesh get "in the way" of the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of even the sincerest of believers. Namely, guys like me who are tripped up daily by my own sins and "good intentions". How blessed we are to have a Savior like Jesus Christ. If it weren't for Jesus' work upon the cross we would all be doomed. Thank you Lord for your grace and mercy in saving a wretch like me...

I do highlight my bible a lot because of scriptures that ping me along with comments in margins. Except the red letters because that's Jesus, and post scriptures and what they have meant to me. Testified what God has done and struggles. I wear Christian tshirts for a couple reasons everywhere. First as an advertisement or "walking billboard" for jesus. I started this because I realized that people read tshirts and based on comments they offer encouragement and plant seeds. The second is as a extra check on my behavior as to I want to make sure that my actions match my shirts. When i first got saved i changed my profile pic to Jesus to help learn to respond to comments and my posts. I agree with your video though, especially the titles. But as always its food for thought. Thank you.

Like you said: it all depends on our hearts motive. When I commune with God, I go on prayer walks (alone with nobody watching) because I ENJOY time with God. God has put it on my heart to put some index cards on a ring, so when I walking from place to place or standing in a grocery line, I look at them to keep my mind renewed (I get kind of nervous when waiting in long lines not doing anything). People may say I am doing all this for show, BUT God knows the intent of my heart. So, yes, some of those things mentioned can also be done WITHOUT being done through pride. God knows the intent of our hearts. Sometimes, people think I am prideful, BUT that judgement is a figment of their opinion and says more about them than me. It all depends on the posture of the person's heart.

We all have to examine ourselves let's love knowing how it was for us getting out of bondage I have to work on myself and even if I'm cool on certain things don't mean I have the other thing covered we are not perfect God created in a true believer to examine ourselves we ain't all that we are not better than the next but The Almighty is everything and Jesus paved the way if He didn't die for our sins we would be lost

4:02 -- this is where things get into a grey area. When I'm out in the world, I have in my mind, the verse about people praising God when they see my good works. I know it makes me an annoying goody-goody to some people, but I'm always eager to put up my hand to help, or to bake someone a special cake for their birthday/occasion, because of that verse. So, Matt 23:5 just stumped me. Sometimes even I annoy myself, like it seems like I'm trying to show that I'm a better person because I'm a Christian, but I don't know how else to live out that verse. Now, I really don't know how to!

I figured being "seen" doing things for people would inspire others to do for others too....maybe I need to reconsider that. Not reconsider doing for others but in being "seen". I viewed it as the Tom Sawyer fence painting thing....make it look so great that others would join in. Sometimes I think I need to remove myself from being "seen" so much that I just turn into a robot...an automaton. Like I'm not even there. A 2 yr Christian and I'm confused about certain things

Old video but this comment stood out to me.I’ve always felt uncomfortable when in the company of people who wear those shirts and I have to be honest with myself that it’s judgmental of me. However,I do feel uncomfortable about it and a lot of times find myself uncomfortable with the wearers. It’s usually not bc of the shirt itself but bc of other outwardly showy behaviors displayed. In my experiences, over many decades, they usually turn out to be God for show but not in actions….to reap social benefits for themselves. I’m in the beginning stages of learning (real learning as opposed to in one ear and out the other with Gods word) but the cross and short wearing I won’t be doing.

I oftentimes tell people about my blessings not to draw attention to *myself* - but Christ. I want others to know that Emmanuel, God is with us (if we allow Him to be). So many are ambling in the dark and suffering greatly trying to do everything *their own way*. I want them to clearly see that yheir friend/family 👪 member is going through many of the same trials, but is handling them much better with Jesus as his Lord. Pride is such a dumb thing. It's foolish and blind. And yes. I am sometimes guilty of it. But I can clearly see its futility and foolishness. None of us is any better than another but for the Grace of God. No one can ever knock the Father off of His Throne. The pursuit of self-elevation, therefore, is FUTILE and flat-out STUPID. It is a self-made prison! Better to step outside of it, and avoid ever going back in.
