Really effective composition of footage and music! Love that you included sampled vinyl souvenirs of the same trip, it adds a new dimension to the theme of holiday video. I'd like to see more similar pieces in future - you could end up being the Judith Chalmers of the modular synth community!! 😊

The combo with this music clips and the low res quality of the super 8 montage makes it enjoyable for me. I never expected to like super 8 in this era, but I did. Very creative.

I really really enjoyed that, Mr Stephen. The way the Super 8 flattens the image reminds me of what an end-of-chain compressor can do to music. Your handling of the content and editing is impeccable, and the accompanying soundtrack is fantastic. Please give us more of this in the future, Mr Stephen. :)

γιάσσου!😂 Love your filmography of your time in Greece with your friends and loved ones ❤. Those night shots of the Acropolis + other lit-up ancient sites are absolutely hauntingly beautiful just as certain landscapes and areas of Greece always feel to be. Personally I would rather use film than video. It resembles a moving memory as if it was a dream. I'm so excited that you're utilising film!!! I used to dabble in black & white 25mm film with those Film Cameras that had to be cranked and there was only 2.5 minutes available per shot then I had to crank it up again for the next 2.5 minutes of action. It was when I was in Art College so the 25mm Film Cameras and large Reel Projector were all available for use. I just paid for the Film Processing which was a bit expensive even back then. I can't remember the name of that Film Camera I used. Now I wouldn't be able to afford to do any of that. As you mentioned, it is very expensive to process the Film you're using then you have it transferred to video! Is it transferred to a memory card or how is it saved for you? However it's done your Films look amazing and your editing is perfect to follow the tale you are expressing. The second Sound Piece worked smoothly with your images. The first one was a bit too spastic and repetitive...something about the Greek Music being used was already high energy and when repetition is added to that ultra fast Bouzouki plucking it was too much for me, maybe not so for others 😊. I just turned the sound lower, then right back up for the rest. Excellent work !🎉 3 weeks in Greece, what a wonderful experience ~👏🏽🎶🎛🥁🌠🪴👁🔥😍🐈⬛🌛❗️

Hey thanks a lot for your kind comment! I love Athens as well. It's one of my favourite cities in the world. It was cool to be able to hang out with folks there and show them about. I was speaking to somebody about the crank cameras recently. I've never tried one! For these films, I send them off to a lab in England who process and then scan them to a 2k MOV file. They transfer them over the web. Each file is about 5GB, so it's a good job I've got fast Internet now!! I'm glad you picked up on the first bit actually. I always feel like Athens is mad and hectic, and that part of the trip definitely was... it built up and up and up, so I tried to match that energy with the clips and music. :D Whereas later on it was a bit more chill. I appreciate you! I'll have more to share later. :)

The footage combined with the music is 👌🏻 Saw that you sampled vinyl you bought there, which just makes it so much more fun ❤

Thanks!! My plan is to do the same for each trip I go on this year. Find some vinyl to use for the music...

Ah...you stayed at "14 Reasons Why". Very cool hotel, in the heart of the "lots to do" Psiri/Psyri/Psirri district in Athens. I have quite a few pictures of just the decor in the hotel. Cool Super 8 footage. Makes it seem like you time traveled back to the swinging 70s in Athens. Athens is a great town filled with creative folks...it's too noisy, too crowded at times, but rarely boring.

Well spotted! I was in Athens last year for the first time in a long time and saw that Psyri had become trendy... and that that hotel was new, so wanted to try it. It was pretty good, not too spendy either. :) Thanks a lot for watching!

I'm only halfway through and the first song is incredible. I think we need more of this!

Also (and this is purely my subjective opinion, I will continue watching regardless), I would love to see more stable footage. Wether it's stabilized in post or even on a gimbal or simply just held steadier, it's a little hard to watch sometimes when it's so shaky. And I think the sprocket hole is too self-referential and detracts from the footage being art in and of itself. I believe footage like this should be cropped but I know I'm in the small minority with that one!

Thanks for the kind comments! I'm recording a bunch from old vinyl like this, with the idea that I'll do something with it in future. An album or whatnot. In terms of the footage - I'm not going to cart about a gimbal or whatever, but it is easy to forget that with a low frame rate you need to be more careful than normal about holding the camera steady. This is the first proper set of footage I got back so something to bear in mind for the future! It'll never be fully stable, and I'm fine with that though.

Lovely stuff. There is a certain timeless quality to super 8 which can make it look as though it's from an age that never quite existed.
