Yeah that guy gobbled up a piece of cut mullet. Interestingly, last year a lot of big speckled trout were caught on cut bait at the jetties.

Valuable lesson. Not to rub salt in the wound, but since you essentially depend on this for a living, and since size, strength and weight of saltwater fish varies so greatly, best practice is to re-spool with fresh line as often as possible. A full spool at that!

I was out there today at the Channel, it was tough. But Coop, at Nueces River that small fishing area I was catching good finger mullet but a lot of juvenile ladyfish , 4-6 inches by net. I caught about a dozen to save for later trip.

Bruv we have all lost a biggun like that. Either we lose patienc,the rell isnt strong enough, the line snaps or runs out or our rod snaps. Its not funny at the time but we can laugh later with a story to tell. What do you think it was?

My brother almost got spooled by a big jack too. But it did mess up his baitcaster. The fight took 20 minutes and about 5-6 loops around the boat 😂

The first strike I ever got on a snakehead up in Maryland was on a buzzbait and he bit the blade and started running with it. I’ve caught jacks on just about everything down here except popping rigs lol.

I feel you like I was in my brothers bay boat with the talon down and I hooked a huge red on my medium light rod with a 2500 vanford I made him drag the boat around only way I caught him 😂😂 did the same thing in my little 10ft Jon boat had to chase him with a 30lb thrust trolling motor

Don’t discount rigging those big mullet live on a free-line or bottom rig. Free-line in the Summer surf for big trout, or bottom rig in a channel for big drum.

Definitely a gulf trout, they get as big as speckled trout. Sand trout are the smaller trout species
