I worked for Masonite in the '90's at the Laurel, Mississippi mill when it was owned by International Paper. I enjoyed working there. They screwed up the siding in the late 70's early 80's when they changed the resin and the press time. They had siding in the 50's and 60's that was so dense it was bulletproof.

That was asbestos as well. I had a house with it and you could bat a hard ball against it. Tough stuff.

The hubris of this is incredible! Total corporate propaganda. This is so valuable as a historical record, and as a historian, am thankful før the insight this gives to the mindset of the times.

The 1970's, despite the shag carpet and crazy wall colors, was a really progressive and forward-thinking time in the states wasn't it? Brilliant advertising and well considered imagery that is now becoming a collectors corner all by itself.

Masonite siding was integral to Jim Walters Homes. It was cheap, came in broad 12" widths which saved on labor. And it developed tumors after around ten years' exposure to Florida sun and heavy rain.

Wow. I love this stuff. I forever thought my parents and family were nuts for using paneling and horrendous wallpaper. They were just sold fake marketing. An engraver made the patterns for wood paneling and got notes from desk jockey here? Oh and meanwhile we use what are obviously toilet paper trees but we shoot them with a rifle... My parents' life choices make so much more sense now. I'm pretty sure I was raised on wood sugars in the 1980's. Engraver dude at 5:34 is like "hold on Bob, I'm going to go get my hammer to address your feedback".

now we have ''wood'' floors engineered wood better than wood harder wearing and longer lasting than wood. fine, but, they do need to work on the sound of the floors when you walk across them, instead of plastic panels, they need to sound like wood, wood has air and water in it's fibers that give it resonance when you walk across it, unlike laminates.

Yes they did, I worked there when the settlement came out. It was messy.

Masonite's original Transite product was asbestos and was close to the end of it production in the 70's But was a fantastic product. I still have a few sheets. I only use it when I have a tough job to do. Now instead is of it being a Cementitious asbestos fiber panel, it is now a Cementitious fiberglass panel and nowhere near as strong.

Styles and colors from the 70’s are horrendous. They loved the color brown back then

I disagree about the colors, maybe styles though. I long for the browns and greens that used to be common back then, especially cars. Most cars are white, black or a variation of silver/gray nowadays.

I remember there were corporations and sports teams using a brown rainbow as a logo. The 70s had all the worst oranges, browns, puke yellows and greens you could ever imagine. I'm ok with some of those greens and dark blues though.

@T Holmes I totally agree! I have noticed green similar to that of the 70's starting to show up on new cars. So many of the current colors suck.
